Just a comment for owners of Garmin i3 (and maybe other satnav systems)...................

We used the i3 last week when driving to the French Alps. It was very useful but kept complaining of 'Lost Satellite Reception' and would not work again for maybe an hour.

My initial thought was that the unit had become faulty but now I can attribute it to the kids new Tesco Technik dual screen DVD player! When switched on, the DVD player seems to interfere with the GPS reception - switch it off and it all works again.

So do we take it that the Tesco player causes the fault anywhere or do we just have to avoid the French Alps Rolling Eyes
Is this a general DVD problem or is it just budget Tesco brands that we Stop!

Yas please - avoid the French Alps and it will reduce the lift queues for me.

But seriously, it worth not blaming the i3 (or other satnav devices) if it doesn't get a good satellite reception but looking for other possible sources of interference.

I found this thread on a search tonight, after suddenly experienceing problems with satellite tracking. Perhaps not coincidental that this was immediately after fitting a new carphone kit..... Sad

Bit of a really, as I rely on both the GPS & Phone and I don't want to choose between them.

I've found a problem with an FM transmitter for the iPOD. Some days there is not a problem and on others the sat signal disappears to nothing.

Is there an explanation?

Regards

Yeah, I've had this - the guilty device was a generic mp3 player connected to stereo by 3.5mm lead. Think the cable was radiating unhelpfully, as tucking it out of the way (eg no line of sight to i3) resolved the problem.

What frequency have you got the FM unit set to output when you encounter the problem, there have been reports of specific frequencies reducing sat reception, also interference from poor quality cables can often cause EMC issues such as this - Mike
