Unfortunately, it would appear that Mapopolis are getting out of the nav software market:

More precisely they are pulling out of the Pocket PC/Smartphone market. If they survive this then I would think they will do the same as Navigon - after a year of pulling out Navigon came to their senses and are now back in the PDA/Smartphone market.

well no one was suprised about that. It was a long time comming.

Mapopolis was on top form 4 years ago during the TomTom 2 era but things have moved on and there are now so many navigation programs to choose from. Mapopolis marketing for their software and maps updates sucks.

The market is now starting to get saturated with gps pna devices, so maybe its was good business decision to quit.

My advice to the Mapopolis team, if you do decide to get back into the game
you will need the following:
1..new GUI
2..price ie much cheaper
3 Marketing or Creative Hype ..let my mother/House wife know who mapopolis are. (every woman knows what tomtom is)

4 Intergration into devices.

Good luck and so long mapopolis Angel

That's too bad, I tried it out and it had tons of cool features. The interface and map drawing was just plain ugly though.

I assume they are also pulling out of the Palm market.

As a UK user I'm happy with what I have until the maps start getting old - once that happens I will be have to look for alternative software and nothing would make me happier than for Mapopolis to be back in the PDA business with maps to buy.

However I assume the user base in the UK / Europe is small, and unless Mapopolis updates the already 'overdue' USA maps before closing (seems unlikely), American users are going to be switching sooner rather than later, leaving Mapopolis with no significant user base to relaunch the product to.

Having viewed the latest offerings from the competition, the only thing that I am interested in is full postcode support. The maps are not significantly newer than what I have, I can't see anyone offering maps for the whole of Europe for the same or less than Mapopolis (£63), and no one else offers a free try before you buy.

Cheers

Chris

I've only just bought (4 weeks ago) Mapopolis, so a bit peeved that their support will be withdrawn in a short period of time (ie they had announced their withdrawl from PPC market before I bought the software, but it isn't apparent anywhere that they have done so).

But I like the product, and as Chris says, western europe for such a small sum of money? Unbeatable.

I'll stick with what i have got for as long as possible, maybe by then Mapopolis may have returned to the PPC market.

They said that if you bought any map packs they would keep them on their website for a full year from the date of the announcement. So at least you're OK from that perspective. I just finished downloading all North America ! (1 gig) :P Could come useful in my travels later! Wink

Thats the one saving grace, so I think I will download all the western europe files that I've paid for.

I like the way the software works, makes a lot of sense, and much easier to use than the software on my wifes sat nav (Transonic/Medion type of thing).

I've currently got all UK & france on the memory card, as that is really what i wanted the device for, but I'll get a few more maps downloaded soon.
