1: All windscreen stickers appear to have some degree of unreliability. I SMASHED a PDA when a Navman sticker failed. NOW I ALWAYS ATTACH A THIN WIRE TO THE CAR REAR WIEW MIRROR.

2: Navman claim to have a NEW superior mount. (has anyone seen it???)

3: Halfords car vent phone attachment (£5.95) can easily be attached to an Navman Ipaq3850 bracket and is very secure. (This is now my preferred option.)

I believe I have what Navman may be describing as a 'New' mount.

After various complaints via Ipaq ( I bought their Nav. syatem with Navman hardware.) I eventually received a 'revised' mount!!!!!!!!!

The design and dimensions are identical to the original BUT, I detect, the rubber is softer and arrived with a 'sticky' surface.

So far, in my test rig, a vertical mirror, it has stayed fixed for 2 weeks.

Does anyone have a similar experience???

Steve

The Halford vent fixing ends up with a bracket.

I have removed the Navman grooved part from a standard Navman flexible mount, drilled a single hole in this and attached it to the Halford bracket.

A simple operation, allowing a swivel in 2 directions and a very reliable fixing.

I can E Mail a sketch, if required.

Peter

The photo above should illustrate the adapted Halford mount.

The original was intended for a mobile phone.

The large screw that you can see attached the phone holder to the grill attachment and was simply undone.

The Navman holder was then cut away from the Navman flexible extension and a hole drilled, as shown. It was then fixed with the original screw.

I hope that this is now fairly clear, if not I will take more photos.

My simple solution:

Give the suction cup a good wash with washing-up liquid at various intervals. (Gets rid of all the dried up saliva and muck).

With a clean screen, it works a treat.

If there is enough clear dashboard then why not use velcro.

I bought some and cut a piece about 2 1/2 inches square. Put stick the 'claw section to the dashboard and the 'soft' section onto the back of the Navman jacket.

My Ipaq has never fallen off and is very easy to remove.

For all of you DIY tinkerers, the following site will look like heaven: http://www.memory-map.co.uk/acatalog/pda_gps_accessories.html. I bought both the single sucker mount (BRK001-1) and the double sucker mount (BRK001-3). I have the latter permanently mounted in my car and I keep the former for use in hire cars. The suction cup is bigger and a lot more robust than NavMan's. The double sucker mount is particularly stable because it has one arm resting on the dashboard and the other arm stuck to the windshield. It's stayed in place for 2 months so far. It probably won't fit in all cars though.

NavMan's original mount is a disaster. I was seriously concerned about my IPAQ's long-term survival. With the alternative mounts, my IPAQ hasn't fallen off once.
