Hi all! New member here. At the risk of being accused of not checking everywhere before asking the question, here goes. I've spent the best part of a day looking for Bridge Height and Weight Limit data for the NavMan iCN 530 with no real success. Being a very simple soul, I find many people go into so much technical detail it confuses the issue. I use a map alongside the Sat Nav as I find it gives a better idea of when to ignore the device, even if it is partially defeating the object. Having reveresed an artic through 1/4 mile of single file, traffic light controlled road works and then the wrong way round a roundabout in the course of being built, only to find the *!*??*! JCB operator had parked his machine in front of the 13 foot bridge sign (!!!), does anyone have some simple advice about where to find the POI data for the iCN 530 please.

Welcome to the forum, have a look at Robins site where you can get the bridge height POI file, weight limit is a different story though, I have not seen one of those - Mike

Thank you Mike. Looks like exactly what I'm looking for, but why do these things have to be so difficult to find? With all the criticism of lorries using car Sat Nav and, how can I put this...... "imported drivers", trundling down farm tracks, etc., you would think the manufacturers would be moving heaven and earth to cure the problem. Even of you set the preferences on the NavMan as far away from country lanes as you can, it still insists on using them. I have seen an ad for a dedicated lorry system, the Snooper Indago, with bridges AND weight limits, so the info must be available somewhere. In all honesty, a weight limit file would run into hundreds of thousands of POIs, so by the time you have speedcams, etc. loaded in as well, it might start to get unusable.

Thank for the reply. You're probably right, but many vehicles need different route criteria to cars. Not only HGV, but 7.5 tonne vehicles, buses, recovery vehicles (very tall with a motorhome on the back) and specialist vehicles all need to know about bridges and weight limits, so I don't think you're right in saying the market is a small one, but the coverage of the market is. There is a huge potential there for someone. Many lorry drivers either know the area or use a map, but that's a result of years of experience. New drivers, and especially migrant workers from Europe, use Sat Navs blindly and suffer the consequences.

Thanks Mike. I've downloaded some stuff from Robins site and there's a lot of it. I don't know for certain, but I don't think it can be a complete list, but we'll find out over the next few week. A big bang and a new throughflow ventilation system usually let's you know! I'll post what happens and try to keep a list of any that don't appear to pass on.

As I suspected and as is freely admitted at Robin's Site, the bridge list is very incomplete. I've been out in my car under the 2 lowest bridges nearby today and neither of them show up. The site encourages you to submit new locations and there is a Truckers Road Atlas available with all bridges in it. Perhaps a bit of combined study and a bit of time passing on the information will result in a great asset for all. Please help, truckers (and anyone else for that matter). You know it makes sense.
