the 'Garmin Lock' is a pin number OR set location. i.e. you go to a set location and you can turn it on without needing the pin (e.g. at home so you don't have to keep putting the pin in to update software nd add poi's etc) if you don't know the pin then the only way to get it unlocked is to send it to garmin - even a reset doesn't clear the pin.

it's worth using it but like others have said it doesn't mean it's safe to leave it in the car!

"Hopefully word gets around to the tealeaf fraternity that a pincoded TomTom is worthless."

IF the TomTom has the PIN activated. The tealeaf still has the chance the PIN isn't activated. PINs on Mobile Phones hasn't stopped Mobile Phone theft has it?

IF the tealeaf knows and can identify which ones are "worthless".

IF the tealeaf CARES enough to check first or just Smash and Grab.

IF no one works out how to get round it.

I agree the only way to prevent theft is to take it with you. And remove any signs that you own one, friend of mine borrowed my car, stuck his satnav on window and removed mount when he brought car back, guess what ? 2 damn days later some arse smashed my window I didn't own a satnav then!
Moral of the tale
