Iv been using this for a while, but everytime i start up my tomtom software sometimes it can take upto 4 minutes for atleast 3 satalites to track my GPS device. Sometimes it takes more than 4 minutes, other times it can take 30 seconds.
If its one of the longer times, say 4 minutes, it will track 3 of the satalites, if i start driving, ill have 1 signal bar and its a good possibility that i will lose the signal.
is there any way to solve this problem?? |

When driving GPS position takes too long.
Don't drive until the position is fixed by the GPS, driving around takes too long for the unit to work out where it is, by driving off prior to fix you are making the GPS units task even more difficult to work out where it actually is. Mike |

Thats what im trying to say though, there are some instances where i am stationary and its taking upto 4 minutes to track atleast 3 satalites. In which case i just think " it" turn the unit off and resolve back to the old ways of finding my way home.
Other times it can take a minute.
Id say 3/5 times it will take more than 2-3 minutes.
Iv used other GPS devices including a chepo Garmin sat nav which starts up quicker. |

The time taken to get a fix depends upon a number of variables.
1 How long the unit has been switched off
2 Has the unit changed location since it was last turned off.
3 Current satellite geometry
4 Is there a "clear sky" view.
Under adverse conditions it can take 15mins or longer to get a fix. Under ideal conditions it's going to be 5-30 secs. Patience is the answer! That and turning the unit on before you need to use it in anger!
