Two questions on the 550: -

(1) Has anyone been able to update the internal software? The utility on the NavMan website doesn't seem to work with this model - is there another way of doing it?

(2) Is it possible to get USA maps for the 550? The 5xx series maps sold by NavMan don't work with the 550, so does anyone else do them?

Having bought my 550 18 months ago (when it appeared to be the flagship model at a premium price) it's rather frustrating to find that there is little or no support for it now. It's enough to make you buy a TomTom!

Unfortunately you have ended up with a orphan, the 550 was the flagship product, as it was the first that supported a traffic module, however they appear to have abandoned it completely. It was only sold for a very short time before being superceeded by the 530 and 700 series.

If you want the latest features etc, your best bet would be to Ebay it and update to another model. Upto you if you went for another brand, I certainly can understand why you would.

I personally would look to a brand that has a smaller range of models than Navman, I wonder sometimes if they are not spreading resources too thin, no one can keep up with all the 700's, N's, F's, 500's, 300's etc. The exception is perhaps Garmin, who have an extraordinary range, but they have a long track record of lifetime support for products.
