I have a Go 300 (128MB) and tried to update to the latest software. Unfortunately it's telling me there's not enough space.

I've deleted the speed camera POIs, seleted the license.txt files (I assume I don't need them), deleted the male voice but there's still not enough space. I could delete my High Quality Pubs POI file (49K) but I'd rather not.

This all seems a bit weird. What's my best option?

Thanks in advance

You can Copy anything to the PC, and then copy it back at a later time.

My suggestion would be to Copy the Map Folder to the PC. Make sure that Hidden Files are shown, etc. and that everything is Copied.

You should then have enough space to Install the upgrade and then Restore the Map to the Card.

The alternative is to get a bigger Card as space will be getting tight anyway.;)

Moved my maps off, installed the latest version and then tried moving them back again. Not enough space.

Is it just me or is it crazy that there's not enough space on a standard card to install the latest version of the s/w?

I have a 1GB card spare from my camera so I guess I'll have to dig that out.

Thanks for your help.

Isn't that just the same as complaining you can't fit Windows XP onto your old computer that was the top-of-the-range 5 years ago?
The software that came with the Go300 fitted on OK, and several software updates were released that DID fit on the standard card.
Now, however, the software has expanded to provide more features (such as text to speech on the 910, more phones,TMS, Buddies etc.) so I think it is perfectly fair it should get bigger.

dont waste a one gig card for just a few K on the tomtom.. buy a cheapo 256 card they can be had for a fiver now.. the tomtom dosnt need anything special.. the original card is pathetically slow by current standards.. any common or garden cheapo 256 will do..

a 256 card will hold the gb map and the major roads of europe.. if ever needed..

I think the problem is that you don't know, before you attempt the Upgrade, that it is going to be that much bigger.

HOME just says 'there is an Upgrade available' and 'do you want to Install it now'.

It's one of those useful bits of Info that TomTom seems to omit. Like the Map Version numbers!Rolling Eyes

If upgrades to fix errors are available and recommended then I shouldn't have to buy a new card.

my oppinion is that tomtom were/are a little mean in the size of card they include with their product.. but they did oriiginally cost a lot more then they do now.. i have some 64 meg ones that cost me over sixty quid not that long ago..

now the smaller ones nearly come free with a packet of cornflakes so it aint worth worrying about..

you can remove the SCRIPT folder, it contains a shop demo.
you can temporarily remove the ZIP folder.
Then do the update and start up the GO300. Let it do its tricks and when you see the naviation screen, connect to USB again and move the ZIP folder back to your card.

or is your poi set of High_Quality_Pubs to big ;)

I actually did a restore of an old backup and I'm sticking with my old setup. Once I find out my camera (anyone seen an Ixus 30?) I'll switch to a 1GB card.

Thanks for the note about the SCRIPTS directory as that one takes up quite a bit of space.
