Am I right in thinking that any broadcaster *other* than Classic FM who is tx'ing some sort of trafffic data will actually be tx'ing TrafficMaster data?
Yes, that's pretty much true. There are only 2 RDS-TMC suppliers, iTIS only ues Classic FM, and Trafficmaster use everyone else.

Apart from the odd test signal, that's all there should be.

OK, many thanks for clarifying that. Looking through a lot of TMC receiver manufacturers websites, it isn't always clear which of the two systems they make use of (or, indeed, if they use both).

Also be aware that the Navigon hardware you have can be used by other products.

I moved a few months ago from Navigon 4 to Destinator 6 (TrafficSam)and still use my trusty Navigon tri-ciever :D Not saying it works for them all but perhaps something to consider.

I have the GTM 11 that I had to wire into may car aerial in the end.
In my experience they work if you have a signal, but I find that a problem around the southeast.
Traveling in France I've found one/two man minor side of motorway repairs coming up via tmc, here in the UK some time the TMCinfo is good other times not so clever!

Thanks, Beep.

I wonder if I bought a TMC receiver that worked with both iTIS and TrafficMaster signals, whether my existing navigon software would handle both types....?

Any SatNav setup can only work with 1 traffic provider at a time, so although the hardware can work with both suppliers, the software will only listen for 1 supplier and provide info on that 1 supplier.

There is only 1 product on the market that supports both suppliers in the same software, and even then you select (and pay for) one or the other, not both.

swing is spot on.

The best way to think about this is that the TMC receiver is basically a "radio" which actually detects many radio stations both those that supply TMC and those that don't. It is up to the software you are running to find a signal it "understands". So the same receiver can receive both iTIS and Trafficmaster TMC but the software you are using will only "understand" one or the other.
