Time Settings Lost on TT GO510

I have been using my 510 for several weeks without any issues, however over the last four nights it has lost its time settings. I think that it is retaining the time from when I switched it off, but not sure about that.

It may be relevant or not but about a week ago I started using a new 1GB SD Card. No other problems though.

I see, from the forum, similar problems with previous models but has anyone had problems with the x10 series.

Since posting this issue it has mysteriously stopped. No problems for a week, I didn't do anything, no resets, nothing, it just started working ok again.

From the lack of replies I guess nobody else has seen this on the x10 range.

I will keep my fingers crossed.

I started to get the same problem after updating last week with my 710. Not had it long enough to know if the update was to blame but 3 times in one day I had to fix the time then the last few days no problem.

I spoke too soon. Lost it's time yesterday and again this morning.

Also it failed to switch to night settings when it went dark. Found that the box had unchecked itself.

I have given it a precautionary reset.

Starting to annoy me a bit now.

ive got a 910 and my clock is always changing.... god knows why... time to contact tomtom, mes thinks

Not conclusive yet but it appears to go wrong when I switch it off when it is still attached to the car mount.

If I take it off the mount before switching it off, it seems to be ok.

Will keep testing.

I never turn mine off when its still attached to the car mount and keep getting time changes, even whilst driving one minute it will be 10.30 and the next 05.45 etc

I would assume a sattelite is sending down some flaky data rather than the unit itself.

If the GPS sats were sending flaky data then there would be a lot more wrong than a few TT boxes - it's a primary source of time synchronisation data on large networks (the other big one being the radio clocks).

It's just the TT software not handling the conversion from UTC to local time very well (or at all).

I don't seem to remember this "Time" problem before upgrading to v6.15.
Now, v6.15 has the option, after setting a route, of asking you if you need to "Arrive before a particular time". I've used this quite a bit this week, and my time has been playing silly Bs.
But the last two weeks I was on holiday, and was running aroung my local area looking for speed cam positions. While doing this I didn't have a route entered, (or time of arrival), and the clock was keeping good time, as far as I can remember.
Can anyone else test this, or verify this to be the case?

I have never used ETA and still have the erratic clock, although not as often as some users.

I have received this answer from Tom Tom Support, after tackling them about the Time Keeping issue

Dear Mr Bane,
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
Make sure the very latest software version is installed on the SD card/hard drive!
For both the new GO Series as well as the older devices it would be version 6.xxx
Please then do the following to rectify the problem
Reset the device to factory setting (via change preferences menu)
Reset the device with a paperclip and hold for at least 10 seconds
Press and hold the ON/OFF button for at least 10 seconds
A screen with system information appears.
The time at the bottom (RTC) should be starting from 00:00:00 again.
If not, the reset button was not pushed in for 10 seconds.
Once you release the button, the device will load the application
Go outside where you have a GPS signal
Go to 'change preferences, set clock'
Press 'sync'
In case the time is not entirely correct, change it manually
Press 'Done' to exit the menu
Turn the device off
Next time you turn on the device the clock should still be correct (or will
automatically correct itself once you have a GPS signal again)

Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. It all sounds a bit like a stock answer. But who knows. Might be as simple as that.
