Hi All,

I recently bought an Asus MyPal A632 and installed tomtom navigator 5.
When I first bring up the Nav, it takes a while for the satellite to lock on.

I was wondering if an external antenna would speed up the process? It seems like car nav systems have no problems acquiring signal right away. Is it possible to get speeds like that with a pocket gps device?

Thanks in advance~

I have an A636N which is for all intents and purpose the same machine...
I have no problems using mine in my car or in the works 7.5t wagon, I dont even have to fold out the antenna, I can use it laid flat in the centre console between the seats. From a cold start it can sometimes take a minute to lock onto the sats, after that its almost instant..
Make sure you are using the correct settings, I use prog com 5---hardware com 1-----baud 4800.......CAUTION CAUTION....dont try and set higher baud rates as this can lock up the reciever and the only way to use it again is to remove the battery and leave it overnight to reset....
After having said all that, perhaps yr car or windscreen or both ARE blocking the signal, so if you are still having no luck then try an xt antenna, its bound to improve things.
Finally, this machine works with TT, MemoryMap, and any other GPS software I have tried so far.....
cheers

You do not normally need one.
I assume you are using it in car.
An external anterna does help if you are placing the GPS away from the windscreen and/or you have a metallic windscreen.
