Navman sets new standards for affordable in-car GPS navigation- Navman announces the iCN620 - transferable, digital navigation solution -

London, UK, Thursday 16 October: Navman Europe, a market leader of world-class navigation devices, today announced the European launch of the Navman iCN620. This all-new, in-car, fully transferable GPS navigation system delivers state-of-the-art features unprecedented at such an affordable price.

The iCN620 will hit the UK market in early November and is expected to retail at approximately £849*. Compared to similarly priced, standalone DIN socket in-car counterparts, the iCN620 delivers a more complete and flexible performance. Drivers can view crystal clear full colour mapping, rather than monochrome navigation instruction icons, relaying the vehicle’s exact position at all times. The iCN620 is delivered with Navman’s SmartMAP™ mapping software for the UK and Ireland, which creates a safe, easy-to-use guidance system complete with voice instruction. Full European map software will be available to purchase separately beginning in December, for approximately £200*.

The arrival of the iCN620 affirms Navman’s dedication to the rapidly emerging electronic navigation market. Prash Vadgama, managing director for Navman Europe comments, “The possibilities for portable electronic navigation are constantly evolving and as a category, we’re seeing a very definite increase in awareness, acceptability and take up. There are now a whole host of devices available, each with their own specific offering - from mobile phones to PDAs to the transferable dedicated systems - which is all great news for mass market interest in electronic navigation”. Prash continues, “This is an exciting time for our business and we see the launch of the new Navman iCN620 as key to reaching a wider audience as well as challenging the factory-fitted, in-car navigation sector.”

SmartMAP™ Software
Shipped as standard with the iCN620 is Navman’s sophisticated SmartMAP™ digital navigation, mapping and route guidance software. Navman’s unique Map Manager provides users with the ability to select specific maps, allowing them to travel seamlessly between countries. SmartMAP™ delivers a full colour street level mapping library for the whole of the UK and Ireland, with door-to-door navigation, allowing the user to pinpoint the exact address on any road. Other advanced features include voice enabled guidance that issues early announcements for roundabout and motorway exits, putting the driver at ease on long journeys in unchartered country while the Back-on-Track™ technology re-calculates and instantly re-routes, should the driver veer off course or encounter road work diversions.

The dynamic software also offers extensive “points-of-interest” address data, providing the user with the ability to plan routes easily and effectively. The points of interest include: retail shops, entertainment facilities, local amenities, restaurants, bars, buildings and monuments, hotels, transport, petrol stations, garages, sports facilities, institutions, medical services, and natural attractions.

Key to the driver’s safety while using an iCN620, is its high resolution 3.5-inch TFT quarter VGA screen that clearly displays the colour mapping and direction icons. Its excellent performance in direct sunlight allows the driver to make cursory glances to the navigation screen while simultaneously concentrating on the road ahead.

The Navman iCN620 also enables users to download maps from their desktop PC to either the 64Mb system memory, or to an industry standard secure digital (SD) memory card (also known as MMC memory cards), offering the user the flexibility of memory expansion up to 512MB or more. This provides the added assurance of not being tied into propriety upgrades and high cost of ownership.

GPS Receiver
The iCN620 is manufactured with the latest high performance Navman GPS engine technology. Its 12-channel parallel GPS receiver and up-to-date GPS chip-set ensures low power consumption, low electrical noise interference and high GPS signal gain while delivering a quick and accurate location fix and fast pinpoint route performance. The iCN620 GPS provides a typical accuracy of 5 to 3 metres, 95 per cent of the time.

The iCN620 unit arrives in a new, stylish black metal finish and is delivered complete with two versatile mounting brackets for the dashboard and windscreen, an internal power cable, a standard cigarette lighter charger for in-vehicle power and a soft protective case.

The Navman iCN620 will be available in the UK market in early November from all good retail and online stores priced at approximately £849*. For more information on the iCN620, Navman or any other Navman GPS products call: T: +44 (0) 1293 449882, or visit www.navman-europe.com

Users who don't want or don't need the complexity of a PocketPC and only want the navigation features.

hmmm, looks like an icn630 to me, except for the colour!

620 is a lower number, does this mean that it is a more affordable unit for a wider market, region specific or quite simply a different colour?

what are the key differences between the both?

620 has a slightly smaller screen and only comes with maps fro UK & Ireland. If you buy the maps for Europe the price goes up to about the same as the 630 which includes them!
