Hi

Delete the tomtom one via the home software, the PGPSw database is far better than the tomtom one and its even better than the road angel that i used to use. Plus its a shed load cheaper :D Also when you do install it dont just use the chimes and bells you can set it up so it gives a proper verbal warning or whatever you want it to say.

The mic on my 910 isnt all that but i did put a nail in the hole thinking it was the reset button, the seperate mic seems fine though, but dont really use it as i have a car kit for my mobile anyway.

Regards

Peter

Thanks Peter for this information. I will also go for the PGPSW speed camera version as soon as I have a fully functioning unit. Evil or Very Mad

I realised that a lot of cameras were missing on TT compared to the PW versions but was totally convinced to change last night when I went past a 40 mph camera in Stourbridge (A491 Hagley Road) and the camera shown on the 910 said 60 mph! 8O Odd when the excellent extra of showing your speed against the road speed limit said ??/40.

I also agree that the internal phone mic isn't up to much but overall I do like the unit very much.

I would ignore what the 910 says the road speed should be, i have been on roads that are 70mph and the unit shows 30mph and in 30mphs and the 910 says 70 mph 8O

Whilst the PGPSw cameras tell you the speed of the camera i only use that as a last resort as at the end of the day you should know the speed of the road that you are driving on.

Spending your time hunting for speed cams is a different matter though and the PGPSw database is superb for that.

Would just wish that tomtom etc would make the units directional as i am getting sick of the unit going off when the camera is facing the wrong way and picking the cameras up off streets that i am not travelling on. This made the road angel far better than the tomtom but at the end of the day its the database what counts and for that the pgpsw database is brilliant.

Well rambling over. :D

regards

Peter

Ticking "Warn only when on route" in the setup will sort out the second part of the problem (and for dual carriageways, the first part too).

Hi mrstella,

Why do you hunt speed cameras?

I hope that you’re no one of those people who place burning tyre necklaces on speed cameras! 8O

You’ll have to ask Lutz, who wrote the POI Capture software add-on, if he’ll consider writing a POI Detector program. Cameras recorded by POI Capture have the direction recorded with the other details.

Probably not a good idea to have the warning directional as they do turn them round sometimes!

POI Capture has the option for recording a camera as "Reversible"

Edited as my quote didn't work! Rolling Eyes

Cheers for that, but does that mean if i have not put a route in, it will not alert me. Think its fairly obvious but just checking :D

Mike Alder has authored PocketGPSWorld.com speed camera downloading instructions for the TomTom GO 910.

Find them here.

Thanks Mike!
