I've decided to update my rig from a tomtom wired reciever plugged into my iPAQ, to a BT setup.

I've devided to go for either the Holux GPSlim 236 or globalsat 338 recievers. As the reviews are inconclusive as to which one i need to be getting, i'm after some concidered opinion about the two models.

As i'm moving up i want to get the best for my needs. I have no intentions of walking round with my sat nav, (if i need sat nav to walk with, then i've run out of diesel, and need to find a garage.)

My main intentions are to use it as i drive around, with it plugged into a car charger, I may however want to also look into using my satnav in a tank bag, on a motorbike for an hour or 2 as it gets a bit warmer.

So what factors should i be looking at when stepping into the BT arena? how easy are the 2 units to pair up to a PDA and ttn5? What about batteries? i seem to remember that some BT units had dodgy batteries? How long can i expect the BT unit to last from its battery? and finally which of the 2 units mentioned would you pick given the choice and why?

surely someone must have an idea, or their own opinion on the subject?

After trying to trawl the sites comparison table, it seems that only sirf II recievers are covered there.

I use the Holux 236 its a great bit of kit, I did post elsewhere some time ago that its the best buy I have made in a while.
As for battery life off a full charge I typically get between seven and eight hours when walking, in fact I very seldom connect it to the car in use as it saves cables - Mike

BT 338 (if only as a counter to the Holux)

Size and hideability, battery life, time to first fix.

Can't speak for the Holux, but the BT is real easy.

Replaceable in the 338.

Ages for the 338. Probably much the same as the Holux. 12+ hours???

338, 'cos it's just so cute.
