it will work with any garmin unit that is compatable with garmin's poi loader software.

you don't need to convert back to csv as the extra data needed is in the gpx format and poiloader will work with gpx files.

MaFt, many thanks for your prompt reply.
Have just downloaded and everything has worked fine.

Thanks again.

Question - Why does my Garmin I3 not work with the .GPX download of the speed camera database?

I have been using a Garmin I3 for 3 months now - it's great.

Small problem however, I downloaded the Speed Camera Database from Pocket GPS in April in .csv format and it worked great with all the audible warnings and screen warnings working correctly. In May I downloaded the same database but in the new .gpx format and now they do not work at all (although they are viewable in "points of interest"). My settings are set to allow proximity alerts and I am using ver 3.0 firmware.

I then reverted back to the April database and everything came right again.

Thanks

You have downloaded the incorrect version of the database. For the i3 and Nuvi you should be using the POILoader version of the database.

The GPX version is for older versions of Garmin Sat nav.

Hi All.
Message to cbrom.
Terrific utility you've created here but I can't for the life of me get my icons to stay 'always on'. Followed your instructions to the letter (4 times now) and it still doesn't work.
Can change the distance/ times for warnings but the icons only appear when I'm within 5mph of the camera speed. Would prefer to have them on all the time. (It's what I'm used to, having just come over from the other side).
I'm running the nuvi 360 but I would have thought the software would still work, maybe I'm wrong.
Any ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Apologies in advance, silly question time:

I am going to load the new camera database (May), I currently have April's installed. I want to alter the file so the speed camera icon stays on all the time.

Do I:

1) Download the new versions of camera info/POI's
2) Convert them using this convertor
3) Load them onto my I3

My I3 is one with an internal memory and I was thinking what would happen when you load new camera info/POI's onto it. Does it overwrite the previous information? Or does it combine it with the previous info already stored on there?

Thanks for any help

mccstuff - whenever you load anything with poi loader it first removes any custom points already installed, then puts the new ones on

Thanks, I know it was probably a silly question.

I think I know what to do with this convertor, after I've converted the camera files I place them in a file with the POI's then upload them to my I3.

Sometime you just want confirmation that you are doing something right. Cheers.

CeeJay / MaFt

I too have tried to get the Icons to stay on all the time - I've also PM'd Cbrom a couple of times without luck which is a real shame as I think his is a great utility.

I have found the following way round.

Convert files in GPX format
edit the five camera files which now end *.csc.old and replace with *.csv
edit the five files replacing the @50, @40 etc... in the final column with any other character (I use "-") using the find and replace function in Excel.
load the files in via POILoader with the *.GPX extensions having the speed box checked
load the files with the *.CSV extension having the distance box checked (I use 3,000 feet)

This gives you a single warning 3,000 ft out, the icon stays on permanently until you get much closer when the *.GPX files take priority and "bong" repeatedly.

If anyone knows of a better / quicker way please post

Hi all.
Thanks to BAVC10 you're a star
I'll give that a try.
If it works I'll be well chuffed with my unit.
Will post back with my findings.

CeeJay.

Hi to all.
Well guys, I didn't find anything because I got Ash10's utility to work.
Icons still disappear when you stop within the vicinity of a camera but reappear when you start moving above 2mph. So they'll only disappear in major traffic.
That'll do for me. :D

i have it sussed Smile

if you use the seed oned files like i was then that's the problem! poi loader will see the file has a 30 or 40 etc in the title and will make it's own distances from that. if you use the 'poi loader' download files them ok it's not speed zoned, but it works Smile

MaFt

ps - i have had an email from cbrom and he's been very busy and apologises for notgetting back to the queries on the forum!

That explains it, then, I've always used cbrom's utility, and I've always used the "poi loader" downloads, and it's always done the 'always shown' thing (doesn't seem to save that like the other settings, though).
