I wonder why they've made the screen even *wider*. A sat nav screen should surely be portrait format? When I'm driving, I want to see things like the turnoffs, POIs and roundabouts on the road ahead. Not the side streets 2 miles off to either side.

I hope they soon add an option to move the info bar thing to the side so that more of the screen can be used to show you the road ahead. This would be a simple software only fix.

I wonder if they'll be releasing new firmware for the ONE at a similar time which includes the new features on the Go 510?

Nick....

Couldn't agree more. Portrait format capability is one of the most important reasons I went for a PDA-based solution.

Looks really nice. Maybe I should sell my Navman 550 and go for a new TT Go instead! I wonder if they all have Hard Disks inside and full European maps?

Well, the One will still be there, just that new devices are being launched further up the product line. Anyway, that's technology for you - there's always something better "round the corner", you buy a product and then it's superceded within a few months. Always happens, and always will.

These look great. I really like the new ratio display on these new devices. I can't wait to see them up close.

I'm probably being really thick but what's the point/use of a 'text to speech' function on a Sat/Nav?

Having been a user of CoPilot I like the idea of text to speech. For example when navigating the system will tell you to turn left onto the A43.

Hi andygrunt,

SatNav TTS (Text to Speech) is very useful, as mark1968 says, CoPilot has the option of TTS and it’s quite impressive. Giving TomTom TTS is a fantastic idea. Bo Peep and I have taken CoPilot 5 to Jersey, you can read the article here.

I've left the best until last, the TTS (Text to Speech) is simply fantastic! The pronunciation of the road names, especially the French ones, is very good and was how I, i.e. an Englishman who unfortunately can't speak French, would pronounce them.

Regards,
