I recently bought an i3 running v8 mapping and v2.7 rom. It is great. I have read these forums for a while and now have a question.

I am going to northern france around Calais at the weekend and understand the v8 maps cover this area. I have been to my destination in France before but I dont have the address, just the latitude and longitude of the place, how can I input lat and long as my destination? When I select 'Where To' it asks for an address, is there a way to input lat and long instead?

I have yet to connect the i3 to my PC as I want to backup the card before doing that, I have ordered a card reader but dont have it yet so would rather get a solution that didnt involve inputting it as a POI if it could be avoided.

Thanks,
Simon

You could use easygps - freeware, available from http://www.easygps.com to create a new waypoint using lat and long, then save it to you i3 (appropriately named) and it should appear under your favourites.

hi sgillow and welcome to the forum...theres no way to do what you want, as lester suggested the only way is to use a mapping program to locate the position and then transfer to the i3...

bare in mind though that you won't get directions in northern france. routable mapping is only for the uk, the europe maps are only a 'base map' - meaning they're not that accurate and can't be used to get a route. it will show you where you are on a map though.

Thanks for the tips. Seems I will have to use easygps, hope it doesnt break anything before I get the chance to backup the card.

I read somewhere else on this forum that the northern tip of France was covered in the detailed mapping. I will find out for sure on Saturday.

Is there a website that is the equivalent of streetmap.co.uk that can give me the latitude and longitude of a place in france?

www.multimap.com

select france in top left drop-down menu and then zoom right in. click mouse on the exact spot ya want and below the map it shows lat/long for it. you need to use the decimal degrees one (the figures in brackets e.g 49.8633) as opposed to the degrees minutes seconds (49:51:48N)

You can see the extent of it quite easily if you find a place name in northenr France on your i3 - then display the map.

Zoom out - and you will see the edge of the street-level mapped area.
