yes they can either by height sensor on top of the camera or by a unroad sensor the most famous on for this are on the a556 going in to northwich two lanes but as there no centeral reservation its a 40 limit for us

I got a speeding ticket for 49mph in a 50 limit. lucky that day i was in a 7.5 truck and had to send a copy of the plate from truck to prove the weight. You would think they would be able to check with DVLA ? but they told me that they can't. GULTY until you prove your not !

Just out of curiosity, how would the camera then distinguish between a lorry and a double decker bus? Buses are subject to a 50mph limit on single carriage roads and not the 40mph of LGV's. If a 14' bus went through the camera, surely it would still activate it if there is another sensor in use?

yes from what I understand there is a weight sensor embedded in the road to as well as a height sensor

One of our drivers got done last week on the A15 to Lincoln by one of these height sensing cameras. They have a small square sensor light on the top.
They also have them on the A1 near Alnwick heading Scotch.

As regards buses,if they trigger the camera the photo tells what type of vehicle tripped the camera and then they work out the speed to see if a ticket is needed.
Be careful out there.

Hi All

When you approach a Gatso look at the road if there is a grid cut in to it (tar lines)then it will know you are an lgv.

Just a point of interest I got a n.i.p.because of one of these types of camera, (A446 Belfry) filled it out to say yes I was the driver of that lgv on that day, sent it of, then received a fixed penalty to be paid in 14 days or go to court. I DID NOT PAY a further 14 days later yet another letter giving me another 14 days, still did not pay, that was 19 months ago. Think about it, put your hands up they will take the money.
"I do not condone speeding", (faulty tacho on the day in question m lord)

I would have contested that by asking to go to court, if it got that far imagine the ''fun'' you could have had by aranging for the media to turn up as well - sometimes it is worth the extra effort to ridicule the system when the occasion is presented on a plate - Mike
