Mio 268+ Runs Slowly when New Maps are Installed

I have recently bought a Mio 268+, and have no previous experience of Sat-Nav.

It comes with UK maps preinstalled on the 512MB SD card, but I am travelling to Germany over Xmas, so have removed the UK maps, and instead installed the German Maps. This is the way Mio say to do cross border navigation, as I can stil see major routes of UK and other european roads right through to Germany. However, the 268 then almost grinds to a halt, it just runs so slowly and takes forever to choose options on the screen. I have tried doing a hard reset, but it is still the same. But if I put the UK maps back on the SD card, it goes back to it's normal fast speed.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong please, as I am going off in a couple of days and would really like to take it with me.
