Has anyone found anyone selling the Garmin GTM10 TMC unit?

I was thinking of getting one with either a C340 or 2720, although the 2720's don't appear to have been released in the UK yet, but the C340 has.

I've just received my 2720 and I'm very pleased so far. The only places I've seen the TMC receiver are http://www.blokesstuff.com/product.aspx?ProductID=1124 and http://www.aspidshop.com/export/store/product_info.php?products_id=885&currency=GBP neither of which appear to be in stock. I guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks.

I got my 2720 today as well, looks great.

I contacted the GPS Warehouse (http://www.gpsw.co.uk) and they said they are expected in December (according to garmin), they didn't give a more precise date...

I've had my GTM10 on back order with Maplin since before Christmas. Has anyone managed to get hold of one in the UK yet?

If so, anything to report - good or bad?

Thanks

I got my GTM10 from Apidshop back in mid-November, along with my 2720.

It was the mainland Europe version, so did not come with a subsciption to TrafficMaster. This had to be purchased separately through the Garmin website.

It works perfectly!

I'm pleased to hear that it works well. How accurate do you find the data to be?

Tophat, I am off to the US next week and if I can find a GTM 10 in the shops then I'll get one.

How much did you pay for your Trafficmaster subscription?

The Garmin FAQ say 199 dollars, but when you start to register on the Garmin pages it shows 60 dollars.

Just wondering which is right?

In case anyone is interested, GPS Warehouse (http://www.gpsw.co.uk) now has the Garmin GTM 11 in stock now. Got mine on Saturday, seems to work well so far.

That's very interesting. My GTM 10 has been on order since December with Maplin and has failed expected delivery date after expected delivery date. I called Garmin UK last week and the man I spoke to told me it wasn't available in the UK yet - although their www site states Oct 2005 - but I didn't have a lot of faith in what I was told as he didn't sound convincing.

Just a thought - could you add an external antenna to the GTM 11 if you found the reception wasn't up to scratch from the built-in ariel?

Cheers

You can certainly add a larger aerial to it - although I think the GTM11 may possibly ship with a stub aerial (in the US it's 10 inches, unlike the pictures on the website!) and a 1m T shaped aerial for running along the windscreen.

I think the GTM10 is better in this respect - if you buy a stub aerial and it works, then you have a perfectly portable solution, but if you find you need a better signal to function, then you can wire into the car aerial (an option not avialable with the GTM11).

True, it is strange - the Garmin UK only mentions the GTM10, whereas people like GPSW seem to have stocks of a UK GTM11 (ie includes Trafficmaster lifetime sub). I can only imagine they intend to supply both in the UK, and are yet to update their website to that effect.

There are two antenna's that come with the GTM11, the "stubby" which is about 10 ins long (maybe a bit shorter?) and a wire antenna (about 2 meters long).

Both seem to work OK, although the stubby doesn't work very well indoors (for checking traffic before you leave home).

So I use the wire in the house and the stubby in the car.

Not sure how good the radio reception is supposed to be in the house.

I think both the GTM 10 and 11 both come with "lifetime" Trafficmaster subscriptions and from GPSW they both cost the same.
