Hi all, this has probably been asked before but i cant find anything.
A work mate has Mio168 & has let it go flat.I am trying to charge it via the USB/desktop charger, but the 'Green' light is on not the 'Orange' When i disconnect the cable it looses all power.

Is it knackered?

Cheers
Ian

If it has gone completly flat then it would have lost all the data and you will have to reload everything (except for the OS & it's supplied components that is). If that's the case it can't hurt to switch off the battery switch for a couple of minutes (hard reset), switch the BATTERY back on then try recharging it BEFORE trying to switch the ppc on.

Don't no if it will work of not but it's worth a try if you are sure that you have all the program discs you need (Tomtom etc.) and have no data on the ppc that you need.

When it's sorted don't lend it to your EX mate again :D

I have exactly the same problem. The battery isn't charging (led stays green) en when I disconnect the power cable the Mio168 goes dead and everything in memory is erased.
My Mio168 is only 1 year old and I haven’t used it that much at all (maybe that’s why). I left it uncharged for some time so I expected the battery to be flat. I don’t think it’s not knackered because in that case I would get some power in, not much but some. But in this case it just won’t recharge at all.

I was able to get the old battery out. I bought a new battery on the internet and it will be send to me from Hong Kong of all places. Now I have to wait until it’s delivered to me.

Until now I did not found any information on the internet on this problem.
Please keep me informed if you find something!

Therein lies the problem.

The unit uses a Lithium Ion battery. Although it is rechargeable, it should not be subjected to full discharge cycles on a regular basis (as in a ni-cad rechargeable battery). It doesn't suffer with 'short charge cycle memory'.

The shelf life in a discharged state appears to be a matter of months. Fully charged it is reported as about 5 years.

There are several postings on the Forum on this subject.

Thanx for you advice Oldboy!

I've received the new battery today and replaced it with the old one and guess what?
...it works like a charm!

So let's recap:

- If you try to recharge your flat/emtpy Mio168 and the green led is always on (instead of orange)... your battery is broke!
- First you have to order a new one here, here or here.
- Remove the screws from the back of the Mio168.
- Use your nails to open it from the side (don't use force!).
- Replace the battery by unplugging it's connector.
- Close it again.

Now you have repaired your machine yourself.

Hi, I bought a 168 in Feb this year and about six months later it would not charge, so I told Globalpositiongs where I bought it from and they told me to send it to a company in Manchester for repair(where it is still Sad ) which I did early October.
The problem was that the mains connector ont bottom of the unit was loose.

I got my mio 168 back form warranty repair last week (it was away for 3 weeks) after having the problem of not charging (as if there was a loose connection with the charger - both car and mains).

It seemed OK on the first day - but now is doing the same again.

The people I bought it from have now given a mio repair line number to call, but frankly I just want my momey back - i don't want to send it back a few weeks again - I need it.

Has anyone else experinced this, and am I entitled to my money back?

Thanks for any advice.

I had this problem a while back & the unit was sent for repair & they fixed the charging issue but broke the joystick so I sent it back & the new replacement Mio was also faulty.

After 3 new units & one repair I demanded a refund from Global positioning systems & they agreed after I talked to the manager. I would ask for a refund but if you have had it more than a month I am not sure they have to refund you so Global Positioning Systems done good. I purchased a new Mio 168 from another company & it has worked fine since, touch wood.

Ask for a refund & keep on at them.

Hi, I have just received my Mio168 back from repair (new battery), and now the device code has changed so I cannot activate TTN3 Sad , I've frequently mailed Tom Tom but get no reply.
I bought it in FEB this year, so can I send back the TTN3 software (Globalpositioning) as unfit for the purpose? and get a refund/new software, I'll ring Global today an find out.

All replies welcome.
