Etrx software version 2.14 and version 3.00 upgrade

I have a Garmin etrex with software version 2.14. Does anyone know if it’s possible to upgrade this to version 3.00 or above in order to gain the extra options?
I know there are downloads from the Garmin site but can I just connect my etrex to the computer and upgrade, or has the version I have reached it’s limit so I would have to buy the newer model?
If this is not possible, is there any other way I can increase the routes storage capacity from the rather miserly ‘1 route only’ that this version currently holds? Confused
Any help much appreciated.

If you have version 2.14 your etrex is locked from further modification that includes going back to an earlier version Sad There are some hacks around so I have left mine at 2.11 for this reason.. Btw if you have a model with v 3 software it should be have WAAS on it.
