Can anyone advise me?

I've had an Acer N35 with Destinator 3 for about 5 months or so
When it works, it works fine

Increasingly though, I keep getting the voice message 'signal too low - check antenna' and the system simply cannot find any satellites (even though the battery is full & I may be stood in a field)
Soft booting the PDA sometimes sorts this out but this problem is becoming more frequent

The simple question is:
- Is my PDA knackered?
- If so, is this a regular problem with Acer's?
- Is it something to do with Destinator?
- Should I try to exchange it or is this a qwerk of having a relatively entry-level GPS system?

Thanks for any advice/similar experience

hi mike, well i kno this wont make you feel any better, but i had my acer n35 ow for about 9 month's and i aont had any problems with it, i can even get 7 - 8 satalites sitting in my bedroom, but i sometimes get the warning, but what i tend to do is if im getting low signal then i move my gps from the vertical angle to about 45 degrees which seems to work ok, but you being in a field, sorry i cant help you much more, i surpose it also could be where you are living, if you get the low signal warning again i would surgest going inot your gps settings and having a look that them they could be set up wrong, if you need the gps setting pm me and ill send you mine through, but i wont be able to do that until saturday, cause me sister has borrowed my nav and i wont get it back till then, take care andy :o

Andy
thanks for this
I live in Manchester and the area is well covered for signals
Like I say, when it works, it works fine
I think I'll explore a replacement from where I purchased it
Thanks again
Mike

I had the same problem and sent it back, Acer replaced the 'main board' and it works perfectly now. In fact it locks on to half a dozen sats in seconds which is far better than when it bothered to work before.
Most of the time I could not get a signal at all and I was convinced it was the flip, so before it was fixed I tried shutting and then reopening the flip while watching what happens in GPS setup this way you can see it lock on. What I found was it locked on straight away when and only when I still think it actually switched on the GPS.
The point is though several signal strength bars are now about 80% while before the best was about 50%

Yeah have the same PDA myself doesn't particularly like being indoors hence I get the check message, fine one outside and very rare for it to lose a signal.
