Is there a way to read MM 2004 maps in MM V5?

I notice that there has been a lot of upset that MM 2004 maps cannot be read in MM V5. I seem to recollect reading somewhere that MM 2003 map files could easily be changed with a text editor to make them run under MM 2004. Does anyone know of a similar fix for MM 2004 maps to MM V5?

It seems to me that rather than pay out again for another set of maps, now may be a good time to try out another mapping system say Anquet who give reduced rates for upgrades or Tracklogs, but I've no idea how good they are.
