Mio 168 or Navman 570 or acer n35

Hi,

I`m after an all-in-one pda gps solution for the car and possibly for memory map later. I`ve sort of narrowed the choices down to these three.

Mio 168
Navman 570
Acer N35

prices seem fairly similar , the navman is slightly more but has navman software pre-installed its £249. Mio 168 is £200 with a car kit and the Acer is about the same without a car kit.

Any ideas which one I should go for? I`m slightly edging towards the Navman because of their pedigree in gps and its just come out hence latest technology? or is it?

actually just noticed they all come with a car kit in the box.

also, i`ve yet to find any reviews on the navman 570. anyone seen any?

Always a puzzle but depends on a few questions you should ask yourself:
1. Do you really need a PDA or just an in-car NAV device?
2. Will you want the ability to use or evaluate different NAV software packages - some are better for non-UK countries?
3. Will you accept being locked-in to a brand name software and not be able to choose your own - look at the forums supporting software upgrades.

My choice was Mio 168RS as its reliable, good battery life, good voice volume, built-in GPS antenna - I get 6+ sats all the time with ~1m accuracy in my Honda without an external antenna although one is supplied in the box. I have freedom of choice of NAV software for specific countries (Navngo for Israel and TT5 for UK). I don't bother with the PDA functions at all except for the telephone book.

Some things to look for in the NAV software product (apart from all the usual stuff):
1. Flexibility in routing such as:
- avoid street, manoeuver, etc.
- car, bus, truck, on foot mode selection
- avoid toll roads, backroads, highways route selections
2. Solid street address locator
3. Selectable day/night color mode
4. Safe driving selector (i.e. locks out fiddling with the navigator when driving)
5. Selectable slide bar algorithm sensitivity (i.e. fast <--> correct)

I have also heard good things about Navman products - see the posted forum review link in Dilemma's post.

It would need to have pda functionality and also freedom to choose which software I wish. Probably looking at TomTom and MemoryMap.
basically something with good battery, clear controls, bright screen, and voice volume.

is the navman locked-in to using theyre software only?
