I currently have a iPAQ 3850, TT2 and a PCMCIA sleeve with a 5Gb Toshiba PCMCIA drive. The drive has my MP3s on it.

Has anyone got any tips for dismantling the sleeve so I can hide the sleeve and drive in my glove box but still be connected to my iPAQ on my dashboard? An iPAQ and PCMCIA sleeve looks very bulky.

In theory this should be quite easy but I would need some sort of cable to connect the iPAQ to the external sleeve in my glove box.

Many thanks

Graham

I suppose a simple extension cable would do from the iPAQ to the sleeve - does anyone make these?

Forget the idea of extending the cabling. It carries high speed digital signals - you'd probably play havoc with the timing of the signals if you tried to extend it. Even if, by some miracle, the timing was still OK, you'd almost certainly introduce excess capacitance, which would make things unreliable.

Even if you could make a cable, it'd be huge. There's 100 pins in that connector! It also is quite a specialised piece of engineering - some pins are longer and some shorter than the rest so that when you mate the iPAQ with an expansion pack with the power on, the signals connect in the correct order.

Thanks David. I found this site last night which details the 100 connections http://www.handhelds.org/Compaq/iPAQH3600/iPAQ_H3600.html. A 100 core cable as you say would be unusable even before thinking of interference.

Ah well back to the drawing board.
