PostPosted: Sat Jul 30, 2005 1:08 pm    Post subject: TTN5 Anyone got bmp files working Reply with quote

I believe the reference to putting the bmp files (together with the others) in a "Voices" folder on the storage card may be for TomTom Go. Certainly not even the voices were picked up when I tried on TTN5 - whereas putting the files into the Program Files\Navigator directory of the PPC ges the voices usable but without the nice pictures.

Does anyone have the bmp files working for the extra voices in TTN5 ??

I have voices and BMP files working OK. I created a folder called " Voices " in the root of the PDA and dropped all files in there and it worked 100%.

Does anyone in this group reply to their PM's??

I have 5 extra voices installed. I put all the files in a folder called VOICES in the root of the SD card.

It maybe that just like the Postcodes, it needs a folder called TOMTOM to be present in the Storage card root.

Anyway my TomTom5 SD Card root looks like this.

Great-Britain-Map
ITN
RASTER <= Empty
SCHEMES <= Empty
TOMTOM <= Empty
VOICES
ZIP

VOICES contains the original .chk and .vif files (no bmps) and the new .chk and .vif files with .bmps.

It may also depend where your original voices are. If they are in main memory, you could try moving them and the new voices to Storage card.

Only thing installed in my PDA main memory is the application itself.

Slider.

I know it probably says 'how to' on here somewhere, however, how do I install these voices?

Your help is very much appreciated.

Thanks for help - after creating an empty tomtom directory on the SD card it looks at the Voices directory on the SD card. Got upset when I tried moving the tomtom directory from PDA root to SD card though.

See the link on page 1 of this thread for dowloads. Personal opinion, Vader is a good joke but instructions seem to take too long - by the time hes finished saying "in 300 yards" you're there ! Yoda on the other hand rocks, and since he says things backwards he'll tell you which way to turn much earlier, plus the voice is ace !

a homer voice would be ace!!! especially instead of "turn around when possible" it could just say "DOH!"

How can I edit the names and pictures of the voice files so they are easier to find, instead of SPECIAL 22 etc..... also can I simply change the file numbers so the add-ons don't overwrite the original ones? Thanks!

i made my own pictures to corrospsond to the voice and i also changed the numbers so it doesn't overwrite anything. however i have a slight problem that i'm unsure if it's meant to happen. when i select one of the special voices and turn tomtom off i need to select a voice again as i get a message saying no voice selected. this doesn;t happen if i choose a normal voice. so i'm not sure if tomtom has something inbuilt to default look for one of it's own voices at start up.

cheers
