ok i have been looking at getting myself a gps system for a while now and also a speed camera detection unit

well i bought a snooper sd815is the other day and although very pleased have now found out i can use a road angel as a gps unit (maybe selling the snooper if anyone is interested brand new only used twice! offers sensible offers accepted!)

after reading the review on here all i need to no is how bad is it to use the serial to usb converter what do i miss or what are the bad parts about doing this and also if i was to do this will it be just as good as a separate gps unit???

if so what software should i use to get voice guidance?

cheers in advance!

Your question has been asked and answered in various threads in the Radar Detectors forum. Try "Road Angel" using the "search" facility.

I'm bemused at the mention of Serial to USB conversion - that's only needed on a handful of Pocket PCs.

What Pocket PC are you thinking of linking the Road Angel to?

I take it the reason why you mentioned the serial to usb converter is you have a laptop that doesn't have a serial port ?

You have to be careful with a lot of serial to USB converters because they don't always do what they suggest, and some applications/hardware can have trouble with these. Specifically Garmin's don't like connecting to Belkin converters.

From a cable perspective, you'll need a 9pin serial lead, and I believe a male to male 9 pin null modem adapter (DB9N). Check this thread for more.
