GPSmart datum WGS84 ?

I have an early GPSmart, (the first one off eBay from Germany) and it does not have the UK firmware, although I now have this - but not yet installed.

Would I be right in thinking that the original datum in this unit is WGS84?

I intend to use it on a boat with charting software and paper charts, so WGS84 is preferable. I asked Fortuna, but they didn't seem to understand the question (although they were extremely helpful and friendly in other respects).

By the way, I got very good service with accessories, cables, etc., from Semsons on the internet.

The data output in NMEA format from the receiver will be in WGS84 whatever datum you select for the display. This is common with most GPS receivers. The UK firmware update allows the position display to be output to the screen as the standard Ordnance Survey Grid reference numbers making it much more useful in the UK.



This will work fine with your charts, or any other GPS enabled application you need to use.
