Hi Everyone
I have a Garmin 2620 which I'm very happy :D with BUT when are Garmin going to get into the 2001 century with safety cameras and POI's I'm sure that the system that they use can be updated or modified to enable these to work as they do with TOMTOM & NAVMAN.

Come on Garmin get to it!!

What are your views on this??

Kind Regards

Brian

Hi Brian, Garmin do have points of interest already installed and me thinks pretty darn good ones at that, i have owned the Street Pilot 3 and now got the 2610 and i think they are the best that money can buy for the price..I have also owned the ICN510 and the TomTomGo and in my opinion they don't even come close to the garmin..you only have to look at a Garmin to see that it oozes quality. As regards the speed cameras call me a killjoy if you like (and this is only my opinion) We shouldn't need them (although they would be a nice extra) because we shouldn't be speeding anyway as they are put there to save lives and shoudln't have to be reminded they are there. Garmin have a lot of other benefits that the others don't have like downloading routes from the computer etc etc, also you can enter all your own POI as well if need be. We could say that navman and tomtom are way out of date as they dont have this downloadable facility like garmin do if you see my point.

Hi ferret79
Thank you for your comments I agree with everything you say but as you know safety cameras are put in locations which are some what devious, I have been driving for about forty years and I have never had a ticket (that’s tempting fate) having purchased the 2620 you are unable to make any changes at all unlike the 2610, as its all on a hard drive and with this unit you cannot put in POI's or downloading routes from the computer although I was told this at the time it was the same as the 2610 but with a hard drive so I am a little bit disappointed that I was sold a unit that even the trader didn’t know how it worked and as you know one does hope the trader gives you all the information on such units be for you buy.

As for the Navman 650 which has a hard drive like the 2620 you can do all the POIing etc etc as you like which brings me back to 2620 Garmins hard drive is locked so you are unable to gain access to the maps from your computer, I have spoken to Garmin and they say thats it that how it works!!! HELPFULL

Brian

Ok all pionts noted Brian, I was under the impression that you could do the same with the 2620 as you could with the 2610 altghough i do realise that it uses a hard drive instead if a card so i offer my apologies..I nearly got the 2620 myself but according to your thread i am glad i got the 2610 instead ..its a brill bit of kit and as i said you can basicaly do with it what you want..Perhaps you should have opted for the 2610 instead .Best regards..

Thanks for reply no need for the apology, your right I should have opted for the 2610, I think a lot of people will be disappointed that they are unable to do what you can do with 2610 if they buy 2620, still hopefully people will read this and make the right decision and may be even Garmin may take note and let us into the hard drive

Thank you
Brian

Hi Ken
I'm afraid it only covers 2610/50 they say 2620 comes with base map discs garmin don't supply discs with 2620 comes with a 2.2GByte MicroStore Hard Drive pre loaded.

Thanks for looking into that for me, I'm still looking might find somthing that will work.

Thanks again
Brian
