Received TTGO 300 and new antenna yesterday and can confirm the antenna is vital if you have an athermic windscreen as fitted to my Peugeot 307.
Zero satelites without 9 with!!!!!

Anyway this is my first post so please be gentle.

:D

Have I read it wrong cause I'm sure someone said they where using a different (larger) SD card in their 300 by copying the original 128MB SD onto it. I tried this after backing up mine and no way will it load. I just get an animation of the card coming out of the front and a red cross appears. And yet the one supplied works well including cameras etc.
All the files on the card seem to have been copied to the larger card OK.

Then I'm thinking maybe its got some kind of embedded protection to stop piracy.............and I've missed the point.

PS What do I do with the product code on the credit card type thingy?

Thanks Guys in advance of any help

Did you format the SD card before you transferred everything over. If not give it a try and then reload it. Some people seem to have problems when it isn't done.

With regards the credit card product code just keep it in a safe place, you may need it if you ever decide to upgrade the maps. You can keep a copy of it on the TomTom site in case you do lose it

Thanks for the reply.
Just tried formatting using XP and recopied files unfortunately still get the same refusal from the unit.
Used FAT32 format..........maybe I'll try just FAT?
I assume its possible to use a copy of the original SD then in the TTGO 300?

Hi JoeJorden..

Don't know about the 300, but the Classic GO definately does run on backup cards that's all I use. I have my original SD cards put away for safety and only run with bigger cards so that extra POI's and safety cameras can be catered for.

Could be worth checking your SD card brand as I have heard that some work better than others. Perhaps you could do a search and check this out.

Are you using an SD card reader to copy the card, or just using the TT unit and the USB lead. I haven't had any problems so far just using cut and past.

Good luck...Dave

Thanks for that Dave,
I have tried both the TTGO and a card reader to copy the original and although both copy it, neither way works in the unit.....................hang on, I havent tried to copy from my PC to the duplicate card using the TTGO though......do you think that might make a difference?

The original card appears with a Tom Tom Go icon next to the relevent drive letter in 'My Computer' whereas the copied one doesnt. Does this have any significance I wonder?

Also I have a cheepy SD card maybe I'll search around for previous posts to see if anyone else as had this problem.

Anybody using a duplicate card in their 300?

Thanks

The one I'm trying to use is a 256MB Viking so it should work according to your list!

I've just copied my GB map from my TTG300 onto a Kingston 512 card. I'm running Windows 98 but here's how I did it. It may work for you.

Make a copy of your SD card into a folder in 'my documents' if you haven't already made a back up. I do it by having two folders open one on each side of the screen. On one side have a new folder and the other the TTG. On the TTG folder click 'edit' 'select all' then right click 'copy' then paste into the new folder.

Put new card into TTG, In 'my computer' right click on the removeable drive and click Format, I did a full format.

Then copy the contents of the new folder you just made onto your TTG using the 'edit' 'select all' and it's done.

Thanks PJ

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!

Just tried what you said and although Im on XP and you're 98 I followed your instructions and Hey Presto.

To Antibt, I think what makes the difference is to use the TTGO as a reader/writer to format the card and copy the files and not a card reader. I had previously used the TTGO to copy before with no success so I can only conclude that the formatting proceedure was the issue.

Let us know if you have success.

Good Luck

Pete284

I've got a PNY256 card in my Tomtom300 at the mo and it works no problems.

I followed all the info on here about making a backup as there is no CD with the 300 and put the original in a secure place......

I got the card when i bought the 300 and copied the original over using a card reader via pc and everything worked first time.

The plot thickens...........

How far did you get? Where you able to Copy the SD card to the PC? At what point in PJ's list did it go wrong?

Remember it's better to Copy/Paste than Drag & Drop.

This is what I did:
1.Backedup my TTG card to my document.
2.created a new foder in mydocument
3.Edit and copied TTG card to the newfolder
4.fresh SD card into my TTG and did the full format
5.Loaded the newfolder into my fresh card.
TTG card shows 116 mb of programme but the fresh card loaded only 9.33mb.Used the new card in my TTG but refuse to load-an animation of card coming out of TTG slot and finishing with a big red cross.
Did I miss any procedure? I tried 5 times with the same result.
Will be grateful for any help.
