I need to 'Optimise Stops' so I bought CoPilot Live Pocket PC 5 to run on my Medion PPC200.

I can't get it to detect a GPS signal..... I've tried every different option in the set-up to no avail!

After lots of suggestions & "try this, try that" from the software supplier, they then told me that if it is a Medion from Alde (which it is), it will not run any other GPS software.

Can anyone confirm this & if it is true...Why?

Thanks

Mel.

That's untrue. Depending on your model you may have to 'tweak' the receiver settings but I doubt it. Is your the one with the built-in GPS or an external GPS Mouse?

Also what settings are you using in CoPilot? Finally, soft-reset before launching CoPilot to ensure nothing is hogging the GPS COM Port.

Try downloading the software below, the 30 day trial version, you can then see what settings it uses (as there is a auto detect for the gps) and whether your PPC200 works with that software, if it does then it should work with any other.

If you're using a GPS Mouse then it's COM1 (or Serial on COM1) and if it's the built-in GPS it's COM2 (or Serial ON COM2). Try 4800bps for the port speed or baud rate.

Thanks all of you for trying to help...... I have tried all of the suggestions. But it comes up with No GPS signal, when I go to GPS status.

I am using an external mouse GPS reciever which is working well with the medion navigator software (This programme is still installed by the way).

1 thing I've noticed tho is, CoPilot system requiments are:
Pocket PC 2002 or Windows Mobile 2003

My Medion is running on: Microsoft Pocket PC version 4.20 (build 13100) (copyright: 1996-2003) is this OK?

CoPIlot should work fine with that OS version. Are you sure that no other software is hogging the COM Port? Alternatively read this post which may have the answer.

Derek…

How do I check to see if any another programme is ‘hogging the COM port’?

I tried your other recommendation (the link)and….........

Made sure that I was receiving data by running ‘Medion Navigator’ & got 8 sat’s….

Ran ‘Winfast Navigator’ & it came up with:

=Navigation Message View=
Position(m):

In fact all the fields where blank! So, I went to Tools/Port Setting and it came up with ‘ERROR! Couldn’t find value’

At the bottom of the screen it was showing: Com 1 - 9600 - unfixed

I went to exit & it took me to a screen which allows you to change the baud rate, which I change to 4800 & ‘bingo’ it got a fix.

I then went ‘Factory Settings’ & they are exactly the same as you listed. I couldn’t enter the Baud rate value in CoPilot that you suggested as it only allows you to select from a drop down menu, so I let it do it automatically….. & it came up with “Automatic GPS connection failed verify that your GPS receiver is connected” (which it is).

Hmmmm

Thanks

Mel.

I did wonder who Derek was! To confirm nothing is using the COM Port do a soft reset. in PocketPC simply exiting an app does not necessarily mean the app has closed, ot may have just suspended but would still be connected to the COM Port and hence preventing another app from accessing it.

I have an Medion PPC200 and this runs other software fine but I did need to re-configure the GPS NMEA Sentences as per the article I referred you to earlier to get the satellite display to report correctly.

Darren,

I've tried every thing in the artical without succes. So, what I'm thinking of doing is removing the Medion Navigator software just in case the 2 programs are conficting with each other. What do u think??

Darren

YOU ARE A STAR!!!!!!!!!

I decided to have another go at the instructions in your article & this time its worked!

Thanks very much...........not only for the help but, also the speed with which you responded.

The software supplier told me it could not be done & CoPilots tech support told me they could offer me no more help and in the end ignored my email's!!!!

Regards

Mel.

Excellent, what Medion did to prevent people using their software on other systems was knobble it such that it would only talk to a GPS on COM1 configured in a certain way.

This has the side effect of causing some other apps not to work with the GPS. TomTom on mine worked but would not report satellite signal correctly hence the instructions I created.

Anyway, very glad to hear its worked Smile
