Hi All

After surfing the net on various sites that sell the B2 I arrived at the Origin site and read and I quote:

What happens if an Origin product is bought from a non-approved reseller?

If an Origin product is bought from a non approved source, the purchaser WILL NOT be eligible to receive any customer support from Origin Technologies Limited post-purchase; furthermore, the product will only be covered by a 28 day warranty, compared with the usual two year warranty on products bought from Origin Approved Reseller.

So my question is: Is it a wise decision buying from a non Origin authorised dealer

Many thanks

Jag

Well I have done a Google search and all of the sites I visited seem to charge the same price, so why not buy from them direct ?

Or use:

http://www.origin-b2-gps.co.uk/index.php

Origin Approved Reseller.

They even have a free-phone telephone number, are giving away the "Speed Trap Guide 2005- worth £19.95" with purchases at the moment.

My Second question is:

Has anyone succesfully connected their Origin B2 to a Seidio G2500 unit to work with a iPAQ and how does it compair to a standalone GPS reciever.

Despite frequent broken promises, Origin have yet to release the GPS Data Out cradle necessary to use the Origin as a GPS Receiver for other systems so as it stands this is not possible. I reviewed the B2 2 yrs ago and the accessory was supposed to be 'due shortly'. Infer from that what you will.

The Talex SCD has GPS Out as standard and is equally capable IMHO.

They have finally got around to releasing it! I received an email from them today.

If you don't want to wait for the cradle PM me and I will send you instructions on how to rewire the cradle yourself!

If you're happy to do so, send them me and I'll post a 'How To' article?

Hi All

Can someone tell me what kind of output socket is located on the Origin B2 Solo Cradle. I want to connect the b2 to a seidio G2500 iPAQ cradle. The Cable from Origin is about £45 which is a bit pricey. Seidio sell a DIY GPS adaptor cable (one side is RJ11 and the our side is naked wires) about $9:

http://www.seidio-europe.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SMG1%2DDIY

So if I try to make my own connection I should be saving quite a lot of cash. So going back to my first point does the Origin b2 Solo cradle have a specific or unique output connection

Many thanks

If you get the latest wiring loom set with the PocketPC output - it gives you an RJ11 connection as it stands.

You know, Origin really need to sort out their marketing.

I've asked several times about when the GPS output would be available.

Have they contacted me? Nope.

I emailed them last week when I noticed the cradles being advertised on their site to ask if they were actually available.

Have they replied? Nope.

It makes you wonder if they actually want to sell anything!

Has anyone actually managed to obtain one of these new looms yet?

I ordered an Origin b2 cradle with the NMEA output and connected it up to my Seido 2500. The NMEA signal is passed across OK and all programs on the iPaq which use GPS work fine, but when it is plugged in it prevents the Seido from charging the iPaq. So that was a waste of money. Re-examining available information I can't blame either Origin or Seido, so will just have to swallow the wasted expense. Have now bought a Seido GPS mouse which hides away in a little cubby hole on top of the dashboard and works just fine.

Any idea why it stopped the Seido charging the iPaq?

I guess that a possible problem is if the mount is providing power down the RJ-11 to the GPS Receiver, but the Origin one doesn't need power (cos it already has it from the head unit). However, I'd assume that Origin simply don't connect the power wire?

I don't know why but it does, although all the other functions seem to work. My guess was the same as yours.
