Meridian Color & Water?

Does anybody have any experience with dropping a Meridian into water? The way I use mine makes it very likely I'll do that someday.

Magellan advertises the unit as waterproof (or at least water-resistant) but the battery cover never had any type of seal and I can see daylight through it. At the very least the batteries and SD card will get wet but I'm also concerned that water will get into the main unit through the SD card slot.

Any thoughts?
