Hello Pocket GPS and Thanks for the 'safety' camera POI data. It works very well with my Palm1/tomtom gps kit.

Ther are new camera's (GATSO) in my area and I like to help by submitting them.

Could you give me an 'idiots' guide to how to do this?

Alastair

Alastair,

Send an e-mail to: Cameras@PocketGPSWorld.com

From the FAQ here uis how to submit new cameras:

Q. How do I submit cameras to the database ?

A. Email us either your OV2 file or ASC file and we will work out which cameras we don't have and which cameras we do have. Please be careful when adding cameras not to add false ones.

Hope this helps

Hello Pete

Thanks for that. What I'm not surte about is the steps in Palm1 Tomtom version 4.420 how to correctly add a camera as a POI, in the right catagory etc.

There seems to be several ways of doing it.

Thanks

If you want to submit your info as text this is how you do it:

If you are emailing updates in text format, as opposed to attaching TomTom overlays (*.OV2), then entries in the following format will be appreciated.

Longitude,Latitude,Name:m@nn,"Information #AA"

where:
Longitude and Latitude are in decimal degrees if possible (but any format will be accepted)

Name is your surname

m is a unique id (1,2,3,...) or existing camera ID

nn is the speed zone (30,40,...)

Information is explanatory text

#AA denotes camera type (#G Gatso, #GT Truvelo, #R Red light, #M Mobile, #S S.P.E.C.S, #T Temporary/Roadworks)

For example
-0.12345,51.23456,Davies:1@40,"A325 Farnborough Road. Northbound #G"

I hope that is useful
Nick.

Please excuse if I'm being dumb....
I'd like to send in some new cameras, and assumed that the "camera number" that you'd like me to refer it as would be painted on it somewhere.
But whilst leaning nonchalantly up against them and tapping at my Tomtom, I couldn't find any numbers anywhere.
As these have only just been installed, and they are the first cameras I've actually looked at closely, am I just being too quick and they've not been commissioned, so no one has given them a number yet?

The number is the number of each camera you send in, i.e. 01,02,03, etc. The number you see on each camera listing is the database number used for easy reference.

Even if they haven't been commisioned yet, submit them as the data will be available when they are working

Ah... so nothing to do with an "official" reference number, then.
Thanks for clearing that up - I was beginning to get funny looks as I minutely examined the camera and pole for an I.D. Embarassed
