Hello,
I know this does sound silly but I am new to this.
I got a Qtek PDA that I want to use with a GPS receiver.
Looking at this site, I found a great table that shows which receivers will work with my QTEK.
Now I am not sure if these receivers come with their own navigating software? Also, What types of maps will these software be able to read? Are there special maps for each software?

Hi Bassasm and welcome, there are two major groups of software, the first use their own maps i.e. TomTom Navigator, Navman SmartST, Destinator etc, the second use your own scanned maps that are calibrated for use with the software i.e. OziExplorer, Fugawi etc.
I'm not aware of any software packages that include maps of Saudi Arabia but if you have access to electronic maps in your country or good paper maps that can be scanned then OziExplorer would fit the bill.
To complicate matters, some packages come with their own GPS Receivers and are locked to work with that receiver only e.g. Navman SmartST and others will work with any suitable receiver.
Feel free to ask if you have any more questions? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren for the quick reply.
My PDA works only with Leadtek 9531/9532 and Haicom 203E.
It has a pocket windows 2002 phone edition with ARM processor.
What options does this leave me with?
I need a software now that runs on this operating system and reads from these receivers.

It depends what you want to do, the Leadtek is a great receiver and will work with most packages that are not locked to their own hardware.
As I said, I don't know of any apps that include maps of Saudi but OziExplorerCE would work if you supply your won scanned maps or digital maps if they are available for your country? See OziExplorer Website or our review here _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hello,
I search for maps, I found some on a site that has a software that doesn't work with mu PDA
They are on pairs: one is Bitmap image and the other is a .DES
IS this DES a standard thing to be read by typical software?
