As usual - many thanks guys! Piers advice is spot on! I've recorded mine as a separate file and uploaded the latest ov2. One minor point - how come they all say Gatso's when many of them are Truvelos. It's worth knowing the difference if you have a radar detector as well. All the Gatso get picked up by the RD but because the Truvelos work on an induction loop in the road it can't find them. The majority of Gatso are not in fact working - but you only know if you have a detector of course. Dave - I will mail my addtions now that they are separated.

Cheers

Malcolm

If there is a speed limit defined for a camera does it show in the title if you select it in TomTom?

I can email the camera number and speed limit for some cameras.

Is it possible for you to publish the camera database on a URL (still on your own server) which is compatible with POIEdit and POIWarner so we can sync with it automagicly? From what I can see of both these tools, they will sync with multiple sites so no need to upload this data to POIHandler...

This way you keep control of the database, can check updates as we send them and WE can all have an uptodate version without having to remember to go get it regularly?

I'm checking with Duncan. I know there's a bug in Outlook where if a message is not read and you move it to an external PST folder this can send a deleted not read, and this maybe what's happened.

I emailed some camera location info on the 12 of May and received 4 "read" notifications and 1 "deleted unread" notification! Do I need to resend?

Malcolm, currently they're all listed as GATSO's as one of the larger databases we received had them listed as this. We will be changing this when people notify us of which cameras they are and also of the speed limit at that location.

The New Safety Camera Database is up, and we have a new field now that will allow you to see a number next to each camera. If you want to delete cameras that aren't there, please send us an email with the camera number, this will really help in tracking these cameras down and filtering them out of the database if they're no longer in use.

Be careful about which ones are removed, as some are frequent mobile sites, so if you travel the road on a daily basis and have never seen mobile sites being setup to check for speeding then the camera should be removed from our database.

Please also use the camera number for any corrections/alterations in moving a camera a few meters.

Also when submitting cameras where possible can you also include the speed limit of the area where the camera resides in, we will be trying to add cameras with speed ratings where possible from now on.

All of the cameras I have recorded using GPSAssist have the description "Recorded", so if you open your database in POIEdit (available here) you can delete all of the entries that say "??Mph - Unknown" thus leaving you with all the ones you have recorded yourself (which should have the description "Recorded").

When you have sorted this out you can record to a separate POI database from the main speed camera database, say called "Recorded Speed Cameras" and get GPSAssist to warn you for both databases, this way you keep all of your recorded speed cameras separate from the main database. You can use this database to submit to update the main database.

Hope that made sense.

Malcolm, if you haven't done so already, email us the database you have and we'll schedule these changes into the next update.

It's going to be difficult to merge the two without some very long and specific instructions on a walk through, this is something that takes us a lot of time especially checking for duplicates etc.

What you could do is in theory the cameras I believe get added to the bottom of the POI file, so you could use GPSAssist to export the database out to a text file, edit it on your PC and remove all baring the last x cameras you've added, save it, go into the POI Manager and import the new text file into the current (our latest) database, and this should get you going in the mean time.

Well if you want voice alerts try AT&T s Natural Voices You can create your own custom male or female voice alerts and save them as .wav files.

Ahh, that one seems to be different to the one linked from your main page. Thank's.

Next question. Do you know a source of warning wav's suitable for use with Checkpoint.

Bob, the latest version is 1.042 and it is this version that contains the camera number field. This version was released early April. See here.

We're always grateful for new additions and removal requests for cameras in the database.
