I recently got the Garmin 2620, works great. Question--Is it possible to generate routes on the PC, and then download them to the Garmin via provided USB cable?
Thanks,
Rich |

Hi Rich,
I'm thinking of buying a 2610 and I have the same question as you. Could you find an answer somewhere? If you did, could you please let me know? Thank you in advance,

What software did you get with your 2620? If you got CitySelect or CityNavigator, both of these packages allow PC created routes to be transferred to the device. So does MetroGuide, but I don't know if this carries the data requirde to automatically re-route on the device itself. _________________ Tim |

Hello Tim,
Can you tell me why similar Garmin products (or the same product) can come with two differente maps of europe? City Select and CityNavigator? Wich one is the best? I'm thinking of buying a SP2610 or a Quest.
I've posted this question somewhere else on this forum but I got no response...
Thank you for your help,

I was actually trying to find the differences, but I can't. The only possibility I can think of is that I don't think CitySelect has voice directions whereas I think CityNavigator does. Doesn't the 26xx range come with CityNavigator? _________________ Tim |

Hi Tim,
First of all thank you for your help and for your concern. Actually both ranges 26xx and the Quest have voice guidance. The 26xx comes with MapSource City Navigator Europe CD and the Quest comes with MapSource City Select. I still don't understand the reason for this and wich one is the best map.

Well, CitySelect is now at V7 and CityNavigator is still at V6, so I'd suggest CitySelect hs newer maps. _________________ Tim |

Finally got an answer from Garmin about the two maps!
here it goes:
"Thankyou for contacting Garmin Europe.
Please note that the mapping detail between the two are exactly the same.
the difference is the Streetpilots are dedicated in car nav systems. So they
use the City Navigator software. All other devices have other functions to
them. So they will use the City select." _________________ Laptop PC with GPS Haicom HI-204-E, software Navigator4; StreetPilot 2610 with 2Gb CF |

Q: "Will City Select Europe work on a StreetPilot III, StreetPilot 2610 or StreetPilot 2620?"
A (From Garmin): "Those three models can take Euro City Select maps unlocked to them and will automatic route and voice prompt with them. Euro City Navigator is the overall best for them, but City Select is the best available (and a good) alternative. City Nav makes use of all the routing attributes available from NavTech and the routes Nav makes with a SPIII/2610/2650 can thus be better than those made with City Select. For a specific... Nav has a few more turn restriction types the SP III / 2610 / 2650 can use... it basically makes one of these units a bit smarter than Select would." |
