Anyone know if the Maps & Route Planning software from Michelin will work on an HP 4150 with a PXA255 processor?

It says on their website that it needs an ARM processor but it says the same thing for the Mapsonic software and if you dig deep enough you find that Mapsonic also works with Xscale processors.

The website is pretty rubbish when it comes to tech questions. I've e-mailed them but had no response. I hope it does because like a prat I've already paid for and downloaded the Dublin map.

It installs fine on the PC but nothing seems to happen at the PDA end.

Intel PXA2nn is an XScale, which contains an ARM processor core. Anything that works on an ARM processor should work on an XScale machine.

Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition only work on ARM based machines.

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the software, but does anything useful happen if you choose Tools -> Add/Remove Programs in ActiveSync when your iPAQ is connected?

Don't know David but I'll give it a go. Usually (I've tried it 3 times now)it tells you to have the PDA connected before you install the software as it goes straight into the PDA installation after it has installed to the PC. The window eventually comes up telling you to make sure your PDA is connected through ActiveSync and gives you a 'next' button to press. Once you press this though nothing happens at all either on the PC or PDA for quite a while, then the window disappears and it tells you on the PC that the software has been installed. Nothing at all happens on the PDA though and nothing seems to be installed at that end.

I'll have a look at the add/remove screen and see if anything shows up.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi David,

Nothing showed up on the add/remove screen but when I trawled through 'File Explorer' on the PPC amazingly there were the files. Maybe I didn't look carefully enough in the first place. Anyway it all seems to work although eventhough it's installed it doesn't feature on the remove list of the PPC. There is an uninstall file in the relevant folder which does just that but it leaves the uninstall entry behind. If you want to uninstall this entry you have to do it manually. Having tried this (I guess I just like un-installing and re-installing) it does delete the entry but then leaves behind a redundant icon in Programs. For when I want to get rid of this in the future any ideas as to how I would go about it?

Cheers,

Mark

PS Michelin replied to my e-mail and said they hadn't tested their software on a 4150 so they couldn't guarantee it would work. I'll tell them that it does!
