Turning off PPC/ Navigator / GPS

I'm sure I've seen the answer somewhere, but I believe ther is a correct sequence for turning off PPC / software / GPS. I suspect I'm doing it wrong as my IPAQ 2210 locks up every other day (or is that norrmal for Windows? O the happy days when I tried TomTom Go!!!).

At present I take the plug out of the cigar lighter (so that no light is showing on the GPS to alert theives!) and then just turn off the IPAQ display. Could some guru give me the correct sequence?

I always exit the program, turn off bluetooth and then shutdown the 2210. the reverse is done to start the program.
I don't have any probs with the 2210 ( touch wood) except to say that after two months the rubber side grips have started to come apart. other than that its a good little pda.
