Hi

I have just purchased a TomTom Go for use in a 44 tonne truck, on the whole I have so far been very pleased with the routing for going to places, like other people have said, if you do find you cant go the way TomTom tells you, you simply select another route.
Is their a way of getting into TomTom Go's advanced settings and altering the units preference for certain types of road? Then you could tun up preference for motorways and duel carriageways which would be much more suited to an LGV?
Iam also finding that the arival time is largely inacurate and Iam ariving about 20 minutes per hour after wot tomtom says.....e.g. if tomtom states a journey time of 2 hours.......I arive at the 2 hours 40 minutes mark. I presume tomtom calculates the times by use of avereage speed settings....I.e. if your on a motorway then you will travel at 70mph. Is their anyway of altering this, coz Iam sure that I am not the only one with this problem.
I would also like to locate a "LOW BRIDGE" POI to load into the unit, have found one on this site, but there is only a handfull of low bridges in it, and my truckers atlas indicates that their are 1600 low bridges in the UK. I have considered putting them all into the unit myself, but after putting in about 15 bridges decided that this would take weeks to complete! Confused

I have put all these questions to the technical help part of TomTom's site but as yet they have not replied.

Cheers
Nick

The TomTom GO is a consumer device, and TomTom have cut down the configuration options quite a bit.

If you need to fiddle with street class speeds, you need to use a more sophisticated program like TomTom Navigator or CoPilot or Navigon.

Hi

Have already purchesed the TomTom Go, so I dont wanna be spending more cash on another Sat Nav.

So it aint possible to alter the settings for road preference and time settings?

They seem pretty clued up with putting out software updates, so maybe it will come in a future update if enough people complain to TomTom about it.

Come on people, make your thoughts known to TomTom and it might get altered.......PEOPLE POWER!!!!! Twisted Evil

Let me repeat it. The TomTom GO is a consumer device. You are not a consumer, but a power user. You should have bought something else.

cant you alter the speed settings in the advanced properties this should change the way the go routes you bring them th speeds down to hgv speeds this should work and should bias the system to major road ie
motorway 54
dual carrage way 47
single carage way 40
in town 30
leave the rest
i dont have a go but thats pretty much what i use on my xda2 with tt3

The GO doesn't have these options (it also cannot route to a Lat/Lon position. etc.

Hi

I bought the GO because I needed somthing that was simple to transfer from vehicle to vehicle, I didnt want messy wires all over the cab....thats why I bought the TT GO.

If the settings cant be changed then it needs to be altered by TomTom.

I dont see any reason why they could not alter the software, the recent update for TomTom Go improved the POI options greatly and the tomtom Go was widely critised for not having an easy to use volume control so they added one, and they probably added these feature's because enough people moaned about it.

So LET ME REPEAT..........lets get together and give TomTom some grief, its absurd to have a unit costing that amount of money without having those basic features, I would not call the ability to be able to alter average speeds and set road preferences advanced (it comes on the most basic of software such as Autoroute).

PEOPLE POWER - Together we can make the changes happen!

i doubt it will happen as the go is aimed at car drivers as are 99% of sat nav products currently theres nothing available for hgvs

tomtom cut back the operating system for the go to make it as user freindly as posible you wont be able to get tomtom to change the go as it would require substansial reprograming if you want to have the option bof say navigator 3 them it might be an idea to sell the go and get pda based solution

also there is a bridge height poi database available from www.poiplace.com

Having checked I cannot see a low bridge POI file for UK on that site.

Hi

So basically the TomTom Go, is a useless piece of for me.......wot a waste of time........ and and .

I will make it my personal crusade to give tomtom some grief, its about time sombody did somthing for us HGV drivers......after all we are the ones that spend many many hours driving so that the car drivers can have their stuff in the shops!

And yea.....you guessed it......Iam more than a tad off!!! Evil or Very Mad

If you got it - a TRUCK bought it!!!!

aniquick as i said before there is very little for hgvs daft as were a ready made market i wouldnt blame tomtom
as for changing tomtoms mind and getting them to put a versions out for trucks wouldnt happen as there arent enough users to justify the cost of reworking thye software sorry its not to your standard but its only ment a a navigtional aid as all satnav is an aid maybe alittle more reserch before you bought it would have helped you in your decision

i have emailed tomtom about this before but they didnt seam intersted

That is fair enough. However it may help if you select your words a bit lighter.

One option would be to return the TomTom GO and get a Pocket PC with either TomTOm Navigator or ALK CoPilot on it - those programs are better suited for truckers.

Return the tomtom Go and buy a PDA solution!

Yea nice sugestion, except I bought the TomTom Go on ebay.
And why would I want a messy PDA stuffed on the dash, I wanted the Go coz it was neat and tidy and got RAVE reviews everywhere I researched.
Believe me, I didnt just go and buy one, I did look into it.
However I thought that being able to alter average driving speeds (not a problem just for HGV's, afterall not all car drivers drive at the benchmark average speeds do they?) and also being able to select a type of route e.g. fastest/shortest/avoid motorways etc was a very basic feature and their was no way the tomtom Go would come without it.

I think the changes I am asking for would benifit ALL drivers not just the HGV drivers. And as major changes have been made to the Go before (volume control, and better POI manager amongst other improvments) I dont think I am asking too much.

Iam still gonna give tomtom some agro, if emails dont work, I will phone um, and if that dont work.......I will visit the factory rip their heads off and down their necks.....and while Iam at it rip um a new !!!

On another note.....anyone wanna buy a hardly used TomTom Go? Laughing Out Loud :D
