We know it works on the smartphone, but there is no word as to when the product will be launched.

Is a Nokia 7610 classed as a smartphone?

Also to save me searching, does anyone know how much TomTom will cost for a smartphone.

Thanks.

No, it uses the Symbian OS, other navigation systems are available for Symbian based phones.

It's available now for £199.95

As the 7610 is a Nokia Series 60 device then it will be capable of running TomTom Mobile.

I to have a C500 phone, and have been using the free demo version of mapopolis.. but it ain't no TOMTOM!!!

I see from the details on the web, and expansys, that it comes 'pre-installed' on a MMC card (or whatever)..

I really hope they just have a standalone installable version.. the reason I say this, is that most new smartphones are coming with miniSD cards, and being behind the battery on my C500, I want to use my existing 512Mb miniSD card.. not have to unplug thebattery, reboot, etc, just to use TOMTOM.. That, and the chance of losing a seperate SD/MMC card must be high, if you have to have all your usual music/games on one card, and tomtom on another??

I see the beta running on the GO POIN update story.. looks good ont he smartphone, lets hope they don't screw it all up by making it a pain to use!!!

What I don't quite get is that we have seen it running on a p900 and looks great. But both TomTom's press release and expansys say it comes on an MMC which the p900 does not have.

Also...any updates for release date????

Tomtom site mentions tomtom MOBILE will support E200 but no mention of the new C500 smartphone. E200's take SD cards, C500 take miniSD so I hope tomtom will release a C500 version. I also hope they allow us to copy files between SD cards - I want to purchase a 512mb card and use it for tomtom and music and not have the pain of resetting the phone just to switch between music and GPS.

I asked TomTom about the C500 and the reply was:

The phones which are currently compatable to TomTom Mobile are: Nokia 6600, Orange SPV-E200 and Qtek 8080.
More will be added to our compatability list once they have been tested.

It's not exactly rocket science for them to put it on a different sized card.

I expect what this really means is that they havent tested it on any other platforms. In theory any series 60 phone with MMC and Bluetooth will work OK.

As far as the C500 is concerned I would expect that TomTom will package this in the same way as the Palm and GO products giving you a MMC/SD card and a CD with the software on it. If they do this then the C500 should work. This is just a guess though.

AFAIK the Nokia 6600 is the only phone in that list that is series 60. The Orange SPV-E200 and Qtek 8080 are rebadged versions of the HTC Voyager and run Windows Mobile 2003, the C500 runs WM2003 Second Edition.

You are spot on there. I want to find someone locally who has an nGage or a 7610 to see if it will work in these series 60 phones. I dont see why it wouldnt unless the keys are different or some other hardware capability is missing.

Does that mean no P900 support as that is UIQ?

Looks that way. TT Mobile does work on the UIQ platform as we saw this at CeBIT. TomTom have made no announcements as to its availability on Mobile yet though so I can only assume that it will not initially be available.
