HI,
Anyone bought one of these new mounts yet? Better than the old Brodit offering?

I currently have both models that I am reviewing.

The 215027 is the original model that I reviewed last year.

The 215039 is an improved version of the original mount. This uses parts of the original GO mount and allows the power to be permanently connected to the mount.

The 215038 is currently my favourite as this can be totally locked into place. So there is no chance of any vibration or movement other than through the clip. Downside is that it needs the power cable inserted everytime.

I will shortly finish my medium term testing and will publish the review soon. However both are better than the original.

First post... been lurking for a while...

but thought I would finally add my two pennies worth Smile

I presently have the 215038 mount and I have to say, I'm not all that impressed. However... it being my first car mount, I really having nothing to compare it to besides from the mount supplied with the TTG.

The advantage of the original is the fact that I can have the base resting on the dash, and eliminating additional vibration, which was basically the first and only thing that let the brodit down.

I know you can't have everything, I just have to give another chance I guess, as I went back to the original less than a week after purchase. (I really do need to justify the money I paid for the mount Embarassed )

Hi Hemant and Welcome to our forums.

I am suprised that you are having some issues with the Brodit mount. What sort of car do you have? Which smartclip did you buy to connect the mount to?

Normally I find that any vibration or movement in these mounts is often due to the way the clip is installed/ or the design of the clip itself. I have used these in 3 cars now with great results. The car that I do have some issues with is my Ford Probe where the top of the clip does not fit as tightly as I would like.

Having said that the TomTom is somewhat heavier and is further away from the central mount point.

The 215038 in theory is the "best" of these mounts as it can be screwed don completely. Have you made sure that the screws on the swivel part of the mount have been tightened properly?

I'm thinking of getting a Brodit mount but for the 3 models that support TTG, do you drill holes into the dash to permanatly installed these mounts?

There is no need to drill holes in the car. The Brodit monnts fit onto ProClips which attach to different parts of your car depending on the make, just by clipping on.

They can be removed later without leaving a mark.

I have recently bought a mount and proclip for my car (Thanks for the review MikeB)

What i need someone to help me with is this........how do i attach the mount to the proclip??

Its a 215038 mount by the way.

Do i have to drill the proclip and then screw through into the mount??

or is there some other way that i'm missing.

I've just ordered a 215039 from http://www.gpsforless.co.uk best price i could find at £22.

Seems the right answer, to draw the attention away from the suction mount on the windscreen!

The answer was easy.

I had to attach the mount with the two screws to the proclip(The problem was i didn't have the screws in the parcel) Sad

Craig sorted them out and they arrived next day. :D :D

Installed it yesterday took me 5 minutes. All i did was placed the proclip in my focus and then to save straining the screws found a drill bit a couple of sizes smaller, offered the mount up to the proclip and drilled 2 small pilot holes and then screwed the screw in.

Really pleased with it. Very little vibration, very little screen glare from the screen and its still viewable but not distracting. Doesn't interfere with indicator stalk or steering ability.

Spikebmth,

Did you order just the mount then?? do you already have the proclip??

I took advantage of the special deals he was doing and got the proclip and the mount for £34.(on the GPSforless webpage top left hand side)

I order the 215038 after reading mikeb reviews it made me mind up that it was the one for me.

Oh and i forgot,

With the 215038 not needing any parts of the original mount, i now have the whole windscreen mount available to set up my girlfriends car so we can just swop the TomTom over with no hassle if she ever needs to use it.

I wanted the mount to charge to TT while clipped in, as my new TTG300 (7 days old) didn't come with mains chrager!!

I have a new astra, and wanted to locate the TTG in a similar postion to where the windscreen mount would fit it... But the promounts are all to low a postion, or restrict view of exsisting screen...

***** http://www.brodit.com ..for proclip list! *****

there is a central speaker mounted between windcreen glass & air vents on dash (speaker i think for Sat Nav option on car) so i'm will to sacrifice grill and screw to it... center of the screen would be better as beter GPS signal than at the side.

I also got a mini move it clip to act as a spacer, to lift bracket above lip between speaker grill & main dash.

Is there a bracket or plate available to move the bracket/cradle forward from monting postion?
