I've e-mailed my styles file to all those who requested it; sorry for the short delay. I see that some of you have already made my changes, but I thought I'd send the file anyway.

Let me know what you think, and whether you have success with any other parameters!

By the way, I use Word to compare the original styles file with my revised file to ensure I only make the changes I intend to!

I suspect that the absence of urban areas and railways on the display means that they are not held on the maps...

Cheers, Pete

Thanks to all those who posted above. I had a go with some of the changes that people had suggested but eventually I ended up with just the following. This seems to me to make Copilot most closely resemble a normal road map.

Make these changes to styles.cfg for the day map and nightstyles.cfg for the night map.

-- Changed A roads (dual and single) to dark green outer with pale green inner

[Basic\Road\DividedThin]
"Edit"="Yes"
"PenColor"=0x00028502
"PenWidth"=20

[Basic\Road\DividedThin\DividedThickInner]
"Edit"="Yes"
"PenColor"=0x005eff5e
"PenWidth"=40

-- Changed the motorways to Blue (darker outer and pale inner)

[Basic\Road\InterstateThin]
"Edit"="Yes"
"PenColor"="BLUE"
"PenWidth"=30

[Basic\Road\InterstateThin\InterstateThickInner]
"Edit"="Yes"
"PenColor"=0x00ff8080
"PenWidth"=35

-- Changed the B roads to red (pale pink inner)

[Basic\Road\PrimaryThin]
"Edit"="Yes"
"PenColor"="RED"
"PenWidth"=20

[Basic\Road\PrimaryThin\PrimaryThickInner]
"Edit"="Yes"
"PenColor"=0x008080ff
"PenWidth"=20

Great to see that someone else is customizing.

I`ll give your settings a try - I have decided that red A roads are not ideal as custom poi`s don`t show up.

Cheers
Pete

Hi

Can anyone help me out here?

My Pocket PC hard reset itself the other day. As soon as I turned it back on Copilot reinstalled itself from the quickstart folder on my storage card. I reactivated it and it is working fine except that now I've lost my modified colours. I've checked the styles and nightstyles.cfg files on the storage card and they still contain my changes.

I can't see what I am missing. Does anyone know if there is another file somewhere I need to find? Or do I need to reset the Pocket PC and start from scratch?

Thanks

Hi Bigwig,
PM me with your email address and I'll send you my modified Styles.cfg file.
I've made and additional amendment to the colours,the route is just edged in Purple,whilst retaining the origional road colour.

Thanks Bohica

For some reason it seems when copilot reinstalled itself after the hard reset from the quickstart (2577) folder on my storage card it installed to the iPAQ memory and not over the original install on the storage card.

So that explains why my styles file still had my changes. I was looking at the wrong one!

ALthough this was an old thread it was good to get some ideas. Thank you all.

I have now changed my settings (CoPilot 6) to be close to the OS 1:50000 colour scheme. If anybody would like to do the same (remember to backup first):

Interstate = Motorway : Dark Blue, Light Blue (as OS map motorway) with Dark Blue Edges when zoomed in
DividedThin = A Roads : Green (as OS map trunk Road) when zoomed out, Red (A Road) , Pink (as OS map A Road) with Black borders when zoomed in
Primary = B Roads : Light Brown (as OS map brown), with Black border when zoomed in
Secondary = C (wide) Roads : Thick Grey, Yellow (as OS map) with Grey borders when zoomed in
Local = other (narrow) Roads : Thin Grey, White (as OS map ) with Grey borders when zoomed in.

Unfortunately the previous post (unlike others on similar threads) doesn't seem account for the fact that there are two 'style' files.

There is a 'day' file and a 'night' file - both need changing. However, it is not simply a matter of applying the same changes to both files - it just doesn't work, the results are often far from pleasant.

Obviously, what is 'right', is, and will always be, a matter of personal preference, but, I have found that swaping the inner and outer colours from the 'day' file is a good starting position for the 'night' file.

neil01 is of course correct.
I don't like the night style and as I tend to drive on well lit roads its not an issue having a style with brighter colours at all times.
