BT GPS - There is little information about size or chargers on this (240v or 120v, in car). To be honest, there has already been an announcemnt about Sirf 3. The New pocket BT GPS from TomTom claims to Sirf 3 and available "soon".

As to OnCourse - The most benefical thjing from a UK user is that it installs onto a Memory card. This allows the Pocket PC to be free of part used software as I travel in Europe and USA to switch products via SD card rather than having the DLL spread in memory that are not required.

Map Cutting for those areas that we only need a little of (e.g Route 66 :D )

Travel Log Book would very beenfical as you could distinguish between business and pleasure.. Helps with the expenses.

Thing sI woudl find annoying - Skins for one, along with the need to record "you have arrived at this location" - why?

Please can use a random generator for the sweepstae of the number of number of posts Lbendilin has made?

Think about many GPS solution users - business travellers...

SiRF Star 3 chipset used in the BT-338 - Combining very long battery life and the sensitivity should deviver what business users need - a solution that 'just works' - no messing about.

OnCourse Navigator 4 - So what do business users often need to do - navigate to a customer - and full post code support delivers the good here. They (we) also often need record mileage to claim back fuel costs. What delivers the goods here is an 'applet' that makes the recording (and exporting) of all *relevent* trip data as seamless and painless as possible

- Use post codes and source and destination names/locations from PPC contacts list where available
- Record start and finish times/dates
- Record mileage and (only) major roads travelled on (in case somene queries the mileage later)
- Have logs exportable in a format importable to Excel
- Integrate with PPCs that are phones too, so a 'business travel' screen adds the desination contact's phone details. You can then have a 'press to call' button, making it easy and safe to call to say where you are...

UK GPS users can also get this amazing new product direct from the UK distributor, EasyDevices.co.uk.

We will hopefully keep you informed through this forum when the product is available. Watch this Space.

Hi Sean,

Your Easy Devices website is showing the BT338 at a price of £137.00 plus VAT ( £160.98 ) and that it’s in stock now. When will the BT338 be available?

Regards,

Please can you change your website. I was about to order one of these this afternoon but as I needed delivery tomorrow for a trip I am making on Thursay I thought I best just check the next day delivery details. On making the phone call I am advised that as above they are not in stock and will not be for another couple of weeks!! Potentially very mis-leading. It was only when I went back to have another look to make sure I hadn't been seeing things that I notice there is a different message when you click on the more info button.

Regards

RobMob
PS - if they are likely to be in before a couple of weeks please can you clarify - I ended up borrowing and replacement for my now defunct (RIP) emtac, for this trip.

Uhm, we did state "pre-order" - was that not sufficiently clear?

So I can buy the BT-338 from Easy Devices in the UK (where I live) and it will cost me £168.03 inc delivery or I can order from across the pond from buygpsnow and it will cost $169.95 + maximum of $22.56 P&P, Total $192.51 = £100.64 at current exchange rate and 17.5% Vat (please correct me if import duty is more) Total £118.25. So I can potentially save £49.78, seems a good saving or have I missed something ?

You have to pay both VAT and Import Duty if you are purchasing from US seller.

Each country has only been given a small allocation of units for the first order, so it is likely that all units received by EasyDevices will be pre-allocated from the first batch.

RE uk/us price difference

based on the GPS having a TARIC code of 9014800000 the import duty would be 3.7%

which makes £100.64
import duty £ 3.72
VAT £ 18.26

total uk price £122.62

you may pay a handling fee for collection of the duty/vat of around £5.00 by the post office. - poss more if using a courier.

still looks like a great saving.

Looks like a classic case of rip off Britain.

HTH

Lutz

Sorry - this was not aimed at you - it was for easydevices - I only came across this thread after I had already looked to order from their site as commented and found it was not actually in stock.

I've just been reading a thread on GPSPassion which is talking about a problem with the BT338 not switching fully when the unit is cold. Supposable Globalsat have fixed the problem but units are shipping with the problem. I wonder if the UK units will be fixed or not ? With the weather we are having at the moment don't think it will take long to find out though :D

the cold problem looks like a problem with the bt module rather than ssIII - can't believe that after 6 odd years bt implementation is still so flakey, whether its phones, gps or pda's.

Perhaps they should look at bt headset makers who seam to have sorted most of the problems out.
