If GPS card has SiRF chipset, will SiRF's benefits be available
even though GPS card is talking to NMEA software?

yes, chipset and transfer protocol are independent.

A minor addition to this; you may need to grab some too to enable of some of the features (like SBAS support or track smoothing).
