I use the green Speedo screen and that certainly worked OK yesterday.

There was a change a month or so ago that needed a tweak to the location source. Go into settings, advanced settings, and make sure the location provider is Google Play services.

....... I've just changed to the small blue widget and it's working fine for me.

Thanks, I'll try that. Though the standalone STA app is playing up too...

For me STA has been 99% rock solid.

The only blip was when it needed the location change to Google Play services.

Thanks for the advice: I uninstalled & reinstalled the app, and also did the Location Services setting. Should really have done them separately to see which one was successful - I suspect the latter one.

Anyway, working fine now!

I seem to recall, if you reinstall from scratch it applies the Google Play location setting automatically.

PostPosted: Thu Dec 08, 2022 4:54 pm    Post subject: Incoming call on alert Reply with quote

Hi all,

Can I check someting please? I notice that when a camera is triggered (and my headunit is off) and incoming call is displayed on the HU for a second or so while the voice tells me the camera information.

I have the option "Enable hands-free mode for voice alerts" ticked and I assume it is this that makes an incoming call. I assume that this is so the alert plays through the car speakers when the head unit is switched off. If I didn't want the incoming call to flash up (because at night it is a little bit of a distraction to have the head unit light up if it is actually off) then, if I unticked the "Enable hands-free mode for voice alerts" what would happen to the alert? Would it simply play on the phone only?

Sometimes I have navigation running on the headunit and in this case I am wanting the sound through the speakers of the car. I assume this would happen even if the "Enable hands-free mode for voice alerts" is unticked and I could use any of the audio channel methods. What is the purpose (difference) between the methods? I currently use "Voice Communication".

Ideally I would like to have the sound coming through the speakers of the car when the headunit is off and without the screen firing up but I am guessing that is not possible??

Thanks
Paul

I can't answer all, but for ages I always used the pseudo phone call method.

However, in my new car it was annoyingly truncating the first part of the message/alert.

After trying various options I found the best method for me is:

In the STA Bluetooth settings :

Audio channel set to Multimedia
Enable hands-free mode for voice alerts unticked.

This doesn't fire up any pseudo phone call and smoothly announces each warning perfectly through the car speakers.

Thanks Kremmen. Very helpful and I will try that for a while to see how it behaves. Does it pump the voice through the car speakers even if the head unit is off then?
FYI I have VAG Amudsen MIB2

cheers,
Paul

Ah, can't help you there as my Honda headunit is always on when STA is running.

My previous 2013 Civic, non Android headunit, worked perfectly using the pseudo phone call method but my new Hybrid Jazz, which has an Android headunit just wouldn't play ball properly but the multimedia method is flawless.

I actually don't think I can turn the headunit off. It's needed for other things so always boots up.

Very Happy

I'll wait to see if anyone can shed more light on the vagaries of all these settings. Cheers, Paul

One thing I've just remembered.

The phone call method completely mutes the audio but the multimedia route only lowers the volume level until the warning is finished .... which I think I prefer.

Form me that is okay too. I tried to answer the fake call when the alert came in (I don't get many calls in the car but that day was expecting one). I was concentrating on the screen and nearly went through the red light that it was warning me about. Rolling Eyes

The reason I ask about he different settings is that these modern head units are never really "off" but I wish I could get the alert without the screen screaming at me.

I'd certainly try the multimedia setting then Smile

Its a recent, known issue. My last auto download was on the 4th of this month.
I believe Leo ( the STA developer ) is working on a work around......
