i got done on a mobile speed camera doing 40mph in a 30mph.
i have the speed camera stuff on my pda and it works great.
it wasn't a fixed camera however.
it was one of those cameras which the police carry in their vans and set them up on a tripod and use them at any location.

is there any software that can detect these type of cameras?

It's not so much software as hardware needed to spot one of these mobile devices. And unfortunately (as I understand it) by the time your device has figured there's a laser pointing at it they've already got your number.

5th Gear (on TV) did a program a short time ago about a particular type of garage door opener that "fools" the mobile devices, and they can't latch onto your vehicle so you can't get a ticket. Be aware however that the police can detect that situation and stop you to investigate.

Problem is that although it's legal to install the garage door opener device on your car you must be able to prove it's there for a legitimate reason (hint: opening your garage door would be a nice excuse). If you install without having a legitimate reason then I believe you can be prosecuted. You aren't allowed to install radar jammers Smile

Look at the FAQs section on the following web page for the LT400 for some further information.

http://www.radar-detector-shop.co.uk/products/lt400.htm

Might be worth putting a garage door opener on your Xmas pressie list Smile

You didn't really think it through before you posted this question, did you ?

There are quite a few hardware detectors to detect the radar and/or laser signals transmitted by both fixed and mobile cameras.

Your PDA gives you a warning about fixed cameras because it knows your position and it knows the position of the fixed cameras, from the co-ordinates in its database.

I believe at least 1 hardware detector can be linked to a PDA, but it's not possible to install software on a PDA to give it the ability to then detect radar or laser signals !

Sorry !!!

I just found the following web page which gives a bit more explanation of a laser jammer aka garage door opener:

Doesn't the "value" of this depend on how you value your licence???

Try this one http://www.blackspot.com/products/laseralert/main.htm @ £99.00 its a lot cheaper.

A device called a transponder does the laser detecting/jamming. I asume they are an "active device" and require a voltage to enable them to work, as opposed to a "passive device" that needs no power, and works like a semiconductor. i.e. the laser beam changing the "potential" within the device and this change of state being detected by the receiver.

Am I talking b*ll*cks, here?

Any electronic wizards out there????
