Post codes: why can’t I search for full post codes? The last letter cannot be put in, instead I’m shown road and house numbers that might not be relevant. If I search for TA1 2JY, I can’t put in the Y. Is this how it supposed to be?

Co-ordinates: how do I input co-ordinates from Google maps? I’m ok with the North one, as it is the same amount of digits but the West has more digits in the box and cannot remove them. I.E. 51.013783 -3084453

Please point me in the right direction. I might get to enjoy my Garmin
Smile

Best regards,

That post code doesn't appear in the map data, is it a new development?

As for lat/long, there are 3 different formats so ensure you've selected the correct format in Garmin to match the one in Google maps. If you have just ignore the last number if there are too many.

The postcode TA1 2JY is no longer in use. So your SatNav is technically correct and up to date.

I don’t think so. In maps and waze, I can input the full post code and will show Parmin Close, Taunton, as does on my laptop

I now have set format to h ddd.dddddd to use Decimal degrees (DD) from Google.
For North (N) I can put in N51.013783, the correct amount of digits.
For West (W) I need to leave in the first two 00s then 3.084453, (W003.084453) which gives the correct amount of digits. This appears to get me to the correct destination. Having to leave in the 0s I didn’t know.

Many thanks for your help!
Kind regards.

Looks like the postcode fell from use in December 2016 and is no longer on the Royal Mail database.

It would appear Garmin are using a current version of the RM database.

Others may be keeping unused postcodes for reference, though what RM do with letters addressed there I don't know.

I use the decimal format, e.g. N53.41420° W2.99905° but then I usually use Basecamp to identify the destination then copy it to the Garmin.

I have not been able to identify that format in my Garmin. May be just a Basecamp thing?

I'm confused, you're both referring to the decimal format Laughing
