French company Velco has launched a set of retro fit high-tech cycle handlebars for cyclists.

With integrated GPS, smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and twin 224 lumen headlights, the device can provide route guidance with turns indicated by rider facing LEDs.

And integrated sensors can detect when the bike has been moved, alerting the owner via SMS. You can then track and locate it via an app.

The handlebars are powered by rechargeable tubular batteries which lock into the handlebar ends and the bars.

This item is NOT a handle bar. It is a device that attaches to your existing handlebar as a a light/gps/battery unit or, apparently, can also be attached by each module. Watching the video clearly shows this.

Also, oddly, during the ENTIRE video, the device is called the "WING" NOT the "WINK" as all the text on the site shows. If they can't even get this right, or corrected, it doesn't give me much confidence in the product itself. Rolling Eyes

The first line of text on the Wink Bar product page that Darren linked to above says: "Wink Bar is the smart and connected handlebar". That seems pretty clear. The video says that they have designed two different types of handlebars (at about 1:48).

However the video also says that they need help to put it into production (at about 2:31). So in fact it doesn't seem to be anything at all at the moment.

Here in the states when we see “handlebar,“ we meet exactly that, the handle bar,” The piece that you hold onto to steer the bike. If you look at the videos you will see that this is not a “handlebar.“ It is a device that when all of its elements are connected together are shown clipped to a handlebar making it almost look like a brace, which it is not. Plus it appears to probably be about half the length of a racing clip on style bar or a third of the length of a cruiser style bar. In the second part of the video, one would assume that the components of the items have been separated because the lights are now mounted separately on the true “handle bar“ and not sure where they stuck the GPS or battery. Again the fact it in one place they call it the wing yet all of their printed matter says wink I guessDoes indicate the infancy of this product. Unfortunately the article as posted made it appear this was a new item that was available. If it’s not available that should’ve been very clear from the beginning.

They have 2 different products. One is a handlebar with everything built in, the other is a pair of 'modules' that fit onto existing handlebars. The news article is about the handlebar and not the modules.

The video is also quite old and from their crowdfunding campaign. I would guess that the name changed during the campaign but there's not much point remaking a whole video when it still shows what it does.
